Ella Enchanted was my absolute favorite. I still think it's one of the most perfectly written books I've ever read! I also devoured Nancy Drew, Redwall, and the Dear America series.

@mrbee: I LOVED that book.

Ah man. K, here goes - Wrinkle in Time, The Dark is Rising series, Anne of Green Gables, Babysitters club, Boxcar Children, Narnia, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Little House on the Prairie series, The Blue Castle, Ramona Quimby, Encyclopedia Brown, Little Princess, Secret Garden, The Phantom Tollbooth, The Giver, Caps for sale, Through the looking glass (but, oddly enough, not Alice in Wonderland), The Borrowers, How to Eat Fried Worms, Dear Mr. Henshaw, Julie of the Wolves & whatever the sequel was, The Railway Children, anything by Tamora Pierce but especially The Song of the Lioness series, Dragonriders of Penn.....and, I can't remember, but the one where the mom abandons four kids in a car and the oldest takes them to their grandma in Chesapeake Bay? Arrrgh....

ETA: Got it - Homecoming by Cynthia Voight. actually I liked a lot of her books....

uh, ya. Stopping now.
