@Foodnerd81: Oh, I would totally drive for an hour for some bits of plastic to put in the plug sockets. I drove to Wales once to meet a friend for lunch (it was a 3 hour drive!!). I do love a road trip!

@Cherrybee: They do have Patrull, but the nearest Ikea is an hour away so we probably won't make the trip just for those (though, I also want to get that antilop high chair to leave at DH's grandmother's for when we visit over the summer...)

We've decided we will get new knobs and make sure they will work with the kind of lock that hooks them together, lock up the two most dangerous cabinets, and wait and see how much she gets into...

@Foodnerd81: I'm so sorry, I've only just seen this thread! I don't know how I missed it! We bought ours from Ikea (both the plug-socket covers and the drawer/cupboard latches) - they were really inexpensive and I love them! They were both called Patrull - they might sell them where you are?

Does anyone have any good suggestions for drawers? We have a lot more drawers than cabinets. I'm really trying to avoid drilling into the drawers but I think it's inevitable.

The ikea outlet covers have worked really well for us. You can't remove them (even adults) without a special piece that comes with the pack.

We've had the magnetic ones sitting in a drawer for over a year, my Husband doesn't want to drill holes in the cabinets . We don't have handles or pulls, so I just have to keep a watchful eye.

@mrskc: I want those!!

@locavore_mama: here you go! I'm thinking the easiest and least damaging thing is going to be to get new knobs, even just for a couple of cabinets, and do the lock that you showed.
@mrskc: I think those are the outlet plates we are going to get for the outlets we actually use a lot.

@Foodnerd81: I love the magnetic ones for cabinets we get into a lot. The key is just a magnet so if you do lock the key inside, you can use another magnet. We have some stronger magnets on the fridge that I'm able to use to unlock the cabinets. It's just a little more tricky.

We have these mommy helpers outlet covers. They work great! Eta: it's actually a whole new plate. You remove the old one and screw this cover on.

We didn't want to drill into our new cabinets so we got the ones ones that hook the handles together. We use these two outlet protectors. We're lucky because LO isn't fascinated by outlets!

@Foodnerd81: show a pic of your handles?

@sorrycharlie: Our cabinet knobs are really modern looking and narrow-- like, there isn't enough of a lip to hold the carabiner in place. We are actually planning to change out the knobs, but haven't decided on what yet.

@swedishfish: We just bought the same pack of plug protectors. I was such a cliche, standing with a baby strapped to my chest, looking at baby proofing stuff in the store...

DH nixed the magnetic cabinet locks because he is convinced we would lock the key in the cabinet. He might not be wrong...

What type of cabinet locks do you prefer? What's least annoying for cabinets you use frequently?

Same for outlet covers- I figure we will get basic plugs for the outlets we don't use a lot, but for ones that are used fairly frequently what do you prefer?

C isn't crawling yet but has discovered she can get pretty far by rolling, spinning, and scooting backwards, so it's time! We are starting slowly and seeing what she gets into, but outlets are sort of a no brainer, and we have a couple of cabinets that look pretty enticing (glass front, nice and low, with all our lovely, breakable, glassware in it!)
