I didn't get the hang of the ring sling until my DD was about 10 weeks, but she was still pretty tiny and I LOVED it once I figured it out. I will use it a lot I'm sure with DD2 in a few weeks. I also really liked my Beco Soleil but needed the infant insert for a really long time which wasn't ideal in the summer months (soooo hot for both of us!). I could not figure out my stretchy wrap for the life of me!

@MrsBrewer: I'm sorry, I'm just now seeing this. I'm part of a babywearing group in my city and a lot of them recommended Sakura Bloom. They are pricey, I'll admit, but one tip I picked up is to buy your first one secondhand because then it's more likely to be broken in and easier to use. I didn't feel them in advance, I just knew I'd want a linen sling (better for warmer weather they say) and I didn't need a fancy silk one, although they are beautiful. I'm looking forward to warmer weather to see if A will tolerate the sling before I sell it.

@Mrs. Goose: not stretchy like the moby. It's thicker like canvas, but not scratchy. But not like linen. The awesome thing about the ring is you can tighten different parts of the fabric- like once you have the baby in, you could pull the top part a little tighter while allowing the middle to be looser, or pull the bottom tighter to keep the feet in place.

As for ways to wear it, cradle and front carry are the most common. But with a little practice, with an older baby, you can do a back carry with it! I also liked doing the hip carry sometimes. It's also easy to do a kangaroo hold with baby facing out that's ergonomically friendly! If you actually google "ways to wear ring sling" there are sooo many options and I use YouTube for tips on how to get certain holds.

@californiadreams: I love my beco Gemini too! I even used it past age 2! So comfortable. It was my husband's favorite.

beco gemini. super easy to use, comfortable, no insert needed. can use for at least a year or two. DH won't touch my tula because he just prefers the beco, even 11 months later.

@IRunForFun: I hope you love it! I did the rolled up blanket for a short time and then switched to the narrow seat with my LO. He's just 2 months right now and is quite comfy in the Lillebaby. I'm really glad I splurged on the carrier.

@delight: @tinyperson: I am glad to hear this because I snagged a used Lillebaby for a good deal and am hoping to be able to use it from newborn to toddlerhood. I just watched tutorials on how to carry an infant in it.

I borrowed a stretchy wrap with a buckle by infantino which was comfy for a newborn, but a pain to put on because the ends were so so long. I also have a Tula and borrowed an infant insert. I think next time I'll use my homemade ring sling or try a solly or different ring sling at the beginning.

@Mrs. Pen: just curious what the other options/ ways for wearing a ring sling are? And is yours at all stretchy. I made one out of linen and I feel like the fabric would be nicer if it had a tiny tiny bit of stretch.

I looooved my maya ring sling! I have this one: http://www.mayawrap.com/all-carriers/baby-slings/plum-lightly-padded-sling-668.html

I used it well into his toddler years as well. So many options for carry's with the RS. It was so comfortable, too.

I also did like moby though haha, until he was over 12-15 lbs, then the stretching out thing happened too.

We also had a beco SSC that we loved and started using pretty early on... but for newborns the RS was the definite favorite.

I think baby wearing gear is really trial and error. If you have a group that would let you try the different styles it's probably best to go through that channel. I spent things of money on carriers with DD1 and the only thing that worked for me when she was a newborn was the baby bjorn. Then when she's was a few months old 8 used the ergo without the infant insert.

@MrsBrewer: I didn't have it for DD1 or DD2, but the K'Tan has been an absolute must have with DD3. I use it to wear her out, as well as around the house when she's fussy. B/C she was tiny, we haven't even tried the ergo yet (3 months old this weekend). I still carry her in a "cradle" or "kangaroo" hold, not upright. The only annoying thing is that it needs to be washed every week or so if I'm wearing it daily, because it stretches out. I previously tried a Moby, but it was too much fabric - the K'Tan is two loops, so it's simple to get on very quickly, and it is sized, so you aren't dealing with yards of extra fabric.

I bought mine secondhand (but new) for under $20, but even new I think they are about $50. I think they're easy to find new but pre-owned since people seem to either love or hate them (and thus don't use them).

I didn't mind a ring along, but I have bad shoulders so found it uncomfortable. I really like a wrap for a newborn. I only know how to do one type of wrap, but it was easy after a few practice tries and insanely comfortable. You can use the wraps until toddlerhood ( mostly) so it's something they won't grow out of quickly like some of the other wraps.
