Bleach is perfectly safe. Just make sure the area is well ventilated. Once it's dry it's just salt. It's the only thing I use if we have sick germs as it kills them quickly and doesn't have to be left wet for a long time to do so.

@snowjewelz: Wow, thanks! Before becoming a mom I would roll my eyes at eating the cleaning product to show how safe they are. Now I have 2 young boys who lick the windows. Ha! So, that actually is a good selling point :)

@jaybirdie: Someone here recommended Better Life to me; they were on Shark Tank and they selling point was they ate their cleaners b/c it's that safe! And I've been using a variety of their stuff (I even re-order the gallon re-fills) and I find that cleaning power is good and they are safer than let's say, Method. I've also seen them at Target.

The spray of vinegar mixed with water and blue dawn works so well! I also like the bon ami powder cleaner for sinks and bathroom.

Mr. clean magic eraser is the only game changer that comes to mind. But for sprays we tend to go the more non toxic route like honest. Can’t say they are the best though

I just switched to less toxic cleaning supplies. I make glass cleaner, wood dusting spray, toilet bowl fizzies and toilet tank fizzies. For my hardwoods, I just use a steam mop. And then for counters, tub, other surfaces, I use Biokleen all purpose concentrate and dilute as directed.
Biokleen All Purpose Cleaner, Super Concentrated, Eco-Friendly, Non-Toxic, Plant-Based, No Artificial Fragrance, Colors or Preservatives, 64 Ounces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00581KLKU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_a.xMBbSQGB1YN

Cleaning solutions

Glass cleaner
1/4 c. rubbing alcohol
1/4 c. white vinegar
1 Tbsp cornstarch
2 c. warm water
Combine everything in a spray bottle, and shake well. Shake well before using, too, as the cornstarch might settle at the bottom (and subsequently plug the spray mechanism if it’s not mixed in well).

Wood cleaner
1 cup water.
1/4 cup vinegar (cuts through grease and grime & disinfectants)
2 tsp olive oil (shines and protects wood)
10-15 drops of Lemon essential oil* (makes your home smell naturally fresh and clean!)

Toilet bowl fizzies
½ cup baking soda
½ cup citric acid
½ cup borax or cornstarch
water in a spray bottle
gallon size zip-top bag
25 drops essential oils
mold of your choice (plastic Easter eggs that come apart, a plastic measuring spoon, or silicone molds all work)
Place all dry ingredients into the gallon bag. Seal the bag, and knead to combine ingredients.
Open the bag, spray 2-3 times with water, and close the bag. Mix and knead the bag until all the moisture is absorbed. Repeat this step a few times. (Don’t overdo it with the water – if too much moisture is added you’ll end up with a very weak, crumbly final product.)
You’ll know it’s ready as soon as you squeeze the bag and the mixture stays clumped together inside the bag when you let go. It should be roughly the consistency of pie dough.
If the bag expands and looks like it’s going to burst, let some air out. This is normal as carbon dioxide develops from the mixed acid and alkali.
Add 25 drops essential oil and mix again.
When it’s the right consistency, pack into desired molds.
If using a measuring spoon (like the pictured toilet bombs), pack mixture into spoon and turn the toilet bombs out onto a sheet of parchment paper to dry.
If using plastic eggs, push the mix into both halves of an egg. Lightly spray the exposed parts with water and stick the halves together.
Leave the bombs to dry for a day or two and then unmold. The bomb will be fragile at first, but will harden considerably over the next few days. Dry on top of a refrigerator or some other out of the way place.
Store in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid until ready to use.
Drop one bomb into the toilet and wait for the fizzing to stop. The hard working ingredients will be released into the bowl, both deodorizing and cleaning. Flush and you’re done! (You shouldn’t need to use the toilet brush, but some nasty stains may require a little scrubbing.)

Toilet tank fizzies
¼ cup citric acid
½ cup baking soda
½ tablespoon dish soap
10-15 drops essential oil such as lavender or tea tree
Mix the citric acid and baking soda in a glass or stainless steel dish. Add the essential oil and mix well.
Add the liquid soap slowly while mixing. Note:Stop adding soap if the mixture gets too wet and begins growing. The mixture should be just wet enough to hold together in a clump when squeezed in your hand. Add a tiny bit more soap if needed until the mixture holds its shape when squeezed.) Stir until mixed thoroughly.
Fill small silicone molds (about a tablespoon or so) with the mixture and pack well. Allow to dry for 12-24 hours. Pop out of the molds and dry over a few days. When thoroughly dry, store in a quart jar with a tight fitting lid. It is important to keep them very dry.
You’ll simply drop one of the tablets into the back of the toilet tank and wait. The fizzing action of the tablet, like their bath bomb cousins, will go on for a few minutes.
After the fizzing is done, leave the tank alone for about 15 minutes. If stains and debris remain, you can scrub the tank with your toilet brush until clean. (Depending on the state of your tank, you may need more than one tablet.)
Flush the toilet and you’re done!

I'm running low on many cleaning products so I'm about to do a big purchase to restock but wanted to see if anyone had any favorites.

We have 2 young kids and hoping to be pregnant soon so my husband is pushing for cleaner/less toxic products. I'm all for it if they work but nothing seems to get my white porcelain sick as clean as bleach filled scrubbing bubbles. :)

Any have products they recommended? Particularly for cleaning sicks/tubs, wood floors and kitchen counter tops.
