We use mostly Bumgenius 4.0s, with about 4 BG Freetimes, 3 Rumparooz pockets, and 1 random Charlie Banana. I wanted to love the Freetimes, but they are pretty bulky on my skinny girl (8.5 months, 17 lbs) and it's tough to get them snug around her legs many times. I'm probably equally happy with our BG 4.0s and Rumparooz, but my husband doesn't like putting the Rumparooz on her because they fit a little snuggy and are stretchy, so he thinks he has to work harder ;)

@PawPrints: we added inserts for a long time but once he got over a year there was no containing it so we've been using disposables at night. I just tried a kawaii heavy wetter and it works great.

For the newborn phase we have been using Cloth-eez prefolds and fitteds, and some Kissaluv fitteds. They have all been great and we've loved how absorbent they are but we're excited that LO is already fitting into our Freetimes at 5 weeks old (I guess she has thunder thighs). We've used Freetimes for two days now and they are so convenient. I was even surprised by how quickly they air-dry, since I had read they would be slow to dry. LO did soak through the one she wore at night time last night, so I have ordered a couple of Thirsties hemp inserts for overnight.

For those who love Freetimes, what did you do for overnight? Add inserts?

@FliegepilzHut: I think it is both. Seeing/working the diapers in person can help you narrow down your search but sometimes it is all about what works for LO.

We DS my favorites were BG 4.0 and Ragababes. With DD we started out with mainly BG 4.0 and a WAHM brand from Canada, Ella Bella Bum, that I love (custom), but she had trouble with PUL and peed through everything we tried so we had to switch to hybrid fitteds. For those my favorites are Twinkie Tush, Chloe's Cloth, Southern Comfort, and Snappy Greens (all WAHM's). Hybrid fitteds you need a cover with, but we always gone cover less. We have tried a bunch of different diaper brands and styles, mainly because they are just so addictive!

Thank you all so much!!! That's a whole lot of votes for BumGenius...then Grovia hybrids, Rumparooz, Thirsties, Kissaluvs, etc.

Does anyone think that handling these in person would help? Or is it more about the fit to LO?

I really really love rumparooz pocket diapers! The pocket comes out in the wash on its own, and stuffing them is pretty easy (and allows for customizing how much "stuffing" you need, so they can be less bulky during the day and more absorbent at night.

Another vote for Bumgenius 4.0s here! I love pocket style diapers. Others I've tried are Rumparooz (slightly bulkier but otherwise I like the double gussets!), Blueberry pockets (similar to Bumgenius 4.0, Bumgenius Elemental (all in one organic that takes forever to dry if you don't use dryer, I couldn't figure out how to get the inside to fold well), Moraki (more expensive and barely fits my toddler), Fuzzibunz One Size Elita (way too bulky in the beginning) Best Bottoms (not a pocket style), and two "China cheapies" - Alva Baby and Kawaii Baby (just not our favorites). For newborn stage we used Fuzzibunz XS, Bumgenius newborn, and Tots Bots Tiny Fit...honestly none worked great for us and it had me doubting cloth diapering...I think pocket or all in one just isn't ideal for newborn.

@Mrs. Goose: It's a preference thing. I hated how bulky the one-size diapers were on H, so when she was small, I usually used Thirsties Size 1 covers with a BG insert inside and gDiapers size Medium. I sold my entire stash of BG Freetimes because I hated the fit and the flaps. I much prefer pockets and covers because I can customize the bulk. Now that she's 19 months, I'd probably like the AIO diapers, but I have pockets so that's what I will stick with.

@FliegepilzHut: I'm on the same page as you right now! I would like to cloth diaper and have been slowly looking into it. I was considering sewing my own inserts and cutting up fabric to make my own cloth wipes. I'm still not sure if I will do that or not yet. I like the look of the Applecheeks diapers, but would lay the insert on top, not stuff it.

Question to everyone: is it better to buy one size fits all cloth diapers or the ones that are made for different sizes? I know it would be cheaper to buy one size fits all, but are they drastically more bulky on a young/smaller baby?

We used BG 4.0s for LO#1 and are planning to do the same with LO2. It seemed easier to me to just pick one kind and not think about them. We did them full time during the day, including daycare, but ended up doing disposables at night for wetting issues.

We have 26 diapers and that got us through with washing twice a week. Planning to wash 3x/wk this next go round as my schedule is a little calmer and am hoping to avoid using so much bleach.

I'm loving my RumpARooz pocket diapers! They are the only ones that can handle H's massive pees during the day. We use regular Target Up&Up diapers at night because she's peed through the cloth so much, even with a hemp doubler.

I've also used the following: BG 4.0 pockets (I like them okay, the RAR are just nicer), AppleCheeks (H is a skinny minny so the size 2 are still a bit big on her at 19 months), Thirsties covers (I loved them when she was smaller, not so much now), Flip covers (fit as well as the BG), and gDiapers (I loved them when she was little, but now she pees too much). H hated the prefolds, and I wasn't fond fitted diapers because of how wet they got.

Another fan of bumgenius freetimes. We've also started using liners at daycare and it makes poop cleanup so much easier at this stage, 20 months.

I'm seriously considering CD'ing, at least part-time, for $$ and environmental reasons...the rest of the time, I expect we will use eco-friendly disposables.

Please share your favorite cloth diaper brand (also, any runners-up)...and what you feel is the best strategy for building a stash (how many, a few each of several types vs. a primary stash plus a couple of "extras" to try, etc)!
