We got the mini arms reach cosleeper used from a baby store for $50 and it was super clean. We just got new waterproof pads and sheets. I loved it because it was at the height of our bed so no need to get up and baby had her own space. Using it again when DD2 arrives. I love the look of the halo one but there is no reason to spend money on something we already have! We also "rented" it out to our chiropractor for an adjustment so we pretty much got our money back in it already!

We had the arms reach mini co-sleeper and we loved it. He used it until our son was 4-5 months old (he outgrew it because it was the mini-size) and then used the crib/co-bedding. It had extenders so it was tall enough to be level with our bed and very easy to nurse/"get up" in the night. I put quotations around "get up" because I literally just had to slide him over close to me, side-lie nurse him, and slide him back into his space. I literally couldn't have done less work.
We're in the same situation for rooming as you, it sounds like. Baby #2 will sleep eventually with big brother (who's nearly 3), but we need to wait until they're both good sleepers AND we don't have an extra space/room to spare.

We got an Arm's Reach co-sleeper secondhand from a friend and I loved it completely. I'd keep her in there until college if she'd fit. We finally transitioned her to her crib at 4.5 months and I miss being able to lean over and see her smile.

We had a traditional bassinet that was bed height. It had wheels which I really liked - so that if DH was taking care of her that night, she could be rolled to his side of the bed.

@matador84: starting in the crib isn't even an option- they will be sharing a room and the 2 year old isn't a great sleeper, so the baby will be in our room and there isn't room for a whole crib. But I do think we will co sleep (bed share) more than we did with C, just not all the time.

@Foodnerd81: With my first child, I attempted the crib from night one. I think that is what led to a year of poor sleep, but he was sleeping in the crib, through the night by 18 months.

DD had excellent sleep until about the last month or so, and I generally felt well rested even though I would nurse her at night. It was awesome especially since my kids are only 17 months apart. I've just started in the past few weeks putting her down in the crib at night and she will sleep in the crib until about 1-3 am and then she wakes up. So...it's kind of a trade off! If I were to have more children, I would also continue to cosleep and then transition to crib later as well!

@matador84: I don't think that's awful! I'm a lot more open to having this one in the bed but I also know I sleep a lot better without the baby actually IN the bed with me. Plus I like pillows and blankets.

This will probably sound awful, but DD slept in my bed since the day we brought her home from the hospital. I should have probably gotten a co-sleeper but didn't. I just read about an amazing cosleeper the other day on the Little Baby Garvin blog...the name is escaping me right now!

There is an UB stand on a list serve for $50- if it's for the old version I'm very tempted! But I guess the 2015 doesn't fit the old bassinet.

@Foodnerd81: I had our DD in the Peg Perego bassinet (came with our stroller) on the stand next to our bed until last night when we transitioned her to the pack and play we are taking on our trip next week. It was the perfect height to just reach over and get her, nurse her and put her right back!

@Foodnerd81: our old bed was REALLY high, so no, but in our current normal-height bed, I think I definitely could. (so wishing we updated to our current bed pre-LO! upholstered headboard would have been perfect for MOTN feedings.)

We did a bunch of different things with our 2 kids, but my current is my all time favorite - we just left one side off her crib and pushed it up against the bed. When she got big enough to move around we put up a crib bed rail. When she's big enough to really move, we will just put up the fourth side.

We just did a PnP last time, which was ok but not perfect. If we have another baby I'd like to be able to sidecar something to the bed so it's easier for nighttime nursing. I had so many times where I was nursing on the side that's I the outside of the bed and we'd both fall asleep. I was really afraid he'd fall off at some point.

There are better options in Europe, but the halo bassinest seems like the best you can do in the U. S.

If you had your baby right next to your bed in the beginning, what did he or she sleep in? We had a rock and play for LO1, but considering other options since this baby will probably be in our room longer than she was anyway. (They will eventually share a room so we will wait until she is sleeping a little better).

Did you have something like an arms reach co sleeper? Or a bassinet stand? We have a Vista bassinet that was hardly used at all on the stroller since C hated it, but I don't know if it's worth buying a stand for it. I love the look of the Halo Bassinest but at $200 it seems unnecessary for our second (last) baby...

Trying to figure out something easy to get baby out of from bed instead of getting out of bed.
