I wore the k'tan and infantino mei tai for the newborn stages. Loved the k'tan (I got the half mesh one and I don't think it stretches out as much as the regular) and didn't love the mei tai as much (the ties were really long for me).

Once I was past that stage, I went to a store recommended by the Facebook babywearing group. They had tons of wraps and carriers and after trying a ton on, I went with the Chimparoo Trek. Super soft, very padded shoulder straps and super adjustable. It was the only one they had that seemed to fit very small me and I knew my husband would be willing to wear ;)

My most used/favorite carrier with my first was a tula. With her, I used a moby and a meh dai (formerly mei tai) for the first 2 months, then ring sling for errands and around the house until 8 months, standard Tula from 4 months to 22 months, boba ssc for errands from 8 to 22 months, and she’s still in a toddler Tula at 26 months.

With my 8 week old, I’m using mostly woven wraps, and a ring sling and diy moby on occasion. We tried the standard Tula with an infant insert, but I didn’t love it. I’ll start using our Tula when she’s big enough, and will also continue to use woven wraps.

If I had to pick just one carrier to cover my babywearing needs, I’d probably go with an adjustable soft structured carrier that adjusts from newborn to infant size. I haven’t tried them personally, but they seem like a good solution. Tula free to grow, ergo Omni, Lenny up (Lenny lamb), and lillebaby.

Aww, I loooove my Ergo! But if you want even slimmer, check up Intergra carriers (formerly known as Connecta's).

I loved using my Boba wrap for the newborn days with DD2. Once she didn't need an infant insert, I switched to the Ergo. Then I move onto my standard Tula b/c it's slightly bigger without having to move to toddler. Then I hav a toddler Connecta/Integra in toddler size in swimsuit f fabric for the summer.

I think the easiest after a few months is a ring sling. There is a learning curve with getting it adjusted/comfortable-- but once you've got it it's literally 5 seconds to put it on and I can get the kid in/adjusted while walking into the store without breaking stride. I will say though, it's not my favorite for the newborn stage. I do still use it with my newborn because it is so fast , but it's hard to get really good head support with a ring sling so I only use it when I know I'll have 1 hand free to support her head as needed. My favorite for the newborn stage when I need to be really mobile and hands free is the sollybaby wrap. It's much thinner and more comfortable than the moby IMO. I think it is *easy* to use, but it's not as fast. It takes a good 60 seconds or so for me to get it on, and probably another 60 seconds to get kiddo in/adjusted. Which doesn't sound like a lot but it's enough that it annoys me a little lol. But I still use it daily. My biggest tip for it is to put it on (tie in front) before leaving the house so that when you arrive at your destination you aren't messing around with trying to get it on/tied in a parking lot.

1. Go to a store to try them all out. Your body type and personal preferences will reign supreme; you'll find that you strike some types of carriers right away because they don't "feel" right.
2. For me: I liked the k'tan in the newborn stage. Probably weeks 0-6/8. I loved wearing it around the house, it was easy and comfortable. Once baby got heavier, I didn't use it as much.
2. For me: I liked the beco gemini. I found that I wasn't comfortable with a backpack style straps. The beco has straps that make an X in the back and this, to me, was much more supportive. Once you get the hang of it, its easy, its less bulky than the ergo, and doesn't require an insert for newborns. I'm about 5'4" and 130 lbs pre baby.
3. When baby gets heavier and you start to feel a strain, consider a toddler carrier even if you haven't maxed out your limits with your baby carrier
4. Please read and pay attention to how to properly outward face your kiddo. Its super simple (you simply grasp them by the upper thighs and tuck/roll their little bottom underneath them. Its like a posterior pelvic tilt if you know what that is). That way they won't be "crotch dangling". Every time I see a kid in a bjorn, 9/10 times they are dangling.

Definitely see if you can find a store or babywearing group that lets you try things out. All the response above are so varying that it is hard to decide what is best.

I had a large baby, over 9 pounds. I did use a baby k'tan in the beginning and really liked it. It is super easy and it was tight to my body.

We then quickly moved to Lillebaby and really loved that as well. We did the frog position in it for when he was 'little' and he loved it slept well, and I was comfortable.

I did have a solly baby wrap, I never could get it tight. Hope to try it next time and commit more energy to wrapping it.

Now as a toddler I have a Beco Gemini and like it as well. I switched to Beco for the toddler carrier mainly since my local maternity store offers a rental program and I wanted to try the carrier for a period first.

Next time I would like to try a ring sling as an infant but will rely on my local maternity store to help me with it. I find the highly adjustable wraps and slings, overwhelming.

I really loved mei tais and thought they were the best combination of things. You can use with a tiny baby, no buckles that are bulky and (to me) uncomfortable, and it's easier to learn how to do than a woven wrap. There's also tons of reasonably priced ones out there.

If you can find a babywearing group that has a library trying on different carriers is invaluable! Everything fits everyone differently.

A wrapsody hybrid is awesome because it has the ease of a stretchy wrap but more support like a woven. But it does have more of a learning curve than a soft structured.

Love kinderpacks for a soft structured. The infant works from about 21 inches.

Littles shouldn't face out until they can sit up unassisted. They need full trunk control so they aren't slouching. We never faced out because by the time my lo could face out she was heavy and it was super uncomfortable. Hip carries are great when they want to see out and usually more comfy for everyone. You can start hip carries once they can sit up with assistance

I used a BabyHawk with #2 and looooved it. I found it was softer and cozier than, like, an Ergo, but not as complicated as a Moby. I wore him all over in it, it was SO easy to get on solo, and people stopped me to ask about it all the time. I started using it from about 6 weeks on - until then I used a Moby.

For a structured carrier I got a travel Ergo with my first son which I loved, it packs down into a little pouch so was really convenient. For #2 I splurged and bought a Tula but almost never used it, it was so bulky.

Love my solly wrap. I’m shorter (5’2”) and they make a shorter size that is much more manageable to wrap. I had a hard time with the moby bc of its length!

For a wrap, I hated the k’tan (stretched out really easily and never felt secure, already had the smallest size so couldn’t size down). With LO2 I got the solly and love it! It’s very easy to wrap and I still use it occasionally with my 15-lb almost 4mo.

For a structured carrier we have loved the Beco gemini with both kids and across me, my husband, and our nanny (who is tiny).

I LOVED ring slings until LO was about 2, then we switched to a Tula. Love the Tula itself but dang that thing is bulky. Needed a diaper bag more to carry the carrier than anything else, whereas ring sling was super small and traveled more easily.

ETA: I also used a pouch sling with LO when she was tiny and liked that as well, but you do have to get the right size versus one size fits all ease of ring sling

I only had one, so nothing to compare to, but I really loved the k'tan, I've worn it a couple different ways depending on how big LO was at the time. Super easy to put on once you've done it a few times.

@HappyBaker: it depends on the age
in the infant stage we like the baby bjorn because it provides the most support.
In the toddler stage we like the ergo sport because its the most comfortable. It is a pain to get on but once you get the hang of it, its not so bad

I have used three types of carriers

Lillebaby-
pros: super comfortable, really long life span, can wear lots of ways. I use this for when we are going for a long walk or hiking
Cons: bulky, cannot fit into diaper bag, not as “cute”

Solly-
Pros: can fit into diaper bag, lots of cute patterns, easy to wear
Cons: baby can only face you (both my babies liked to look out into the world by 3months), shorter life span, sometimes hard to wrap when out and about (you have to put your baby down, and I felt like the ends always dragged on the floor in the process of wrapping)

My favorite- ring sling (I have a wildbird)
Pros: can fit into diaper bag, love the minimal look, baby can face outwards on hip, super easy to pop baby in and out quickly. We use this daily!
Cons: a little bit of a learning curve. Can get uncomfortable if wearing for more than an hour or two.

I've been using a Lillebaby for LO2 since he was a newborn and he's almost 11 months now. I hated babywearing LO1 (had an ergo for her) and stopped at 5 months so I think that speaks to how much more I like the Lillebaby. I also had a solly wrap for LO2 when he was tiny and that was nice but had a shorter lifespan.

I used a K'tan when DD was a newborn. It's similar to a wrap but much easier (to me) to put on.

When she got bigger I used an Ergo360. I didn't find it to be too bulky but I assume it's fairly similar to the original Ergo.

I really liked the Lillebaby for when they were little, my kids are huge and once they were more then 15lb (around 5/6 months old) it was not so good anymore. It's not easier to use then a structured carrier, but I found it was less bulky and more comfortable when they were small.

I also love a woven wrap, but it also has a learning curve.

I use a ring sling around the house with my 13 month old all the time.

It's so personal what works for you. It's great if you can find a place to try different things out.

DS2 was worn one way or another almost all the time 0-6 months. Or it felt like it at least. I couldnt put him on the floor or DS1 would hurt him...

We had an Ergo (the original, only one position one) with my first 2 kids but I never really used it because I felt like it was bulky and hard to get on. With #3 on the way I know I'm going to need a carrier or wrap to wear way more frequently.
