@Anagram: I'd do cloud white there.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: at least semi-gloss. Flat will show EVERYTHING!

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter is one of my favorites -- our house was actually painted Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray before we moved in and it's basically the same as Revere Pewter.

Our bedroom is BM - Quiet Moments and I love it.

Our main room is an uglyish beige that I don't love.....but I'm kind of afraid to paint by myself, which is why I want to start with the trim (which really needs it). Would Oxford White be too white for the beige wall? What we have now looks pretty white to my untrained eye. I don't have any decent pics on my work computer, but it's this color.@oliviaoblivia:

@Anagram: I generally use either cloud white or Oxford White for trim. Cloud white is a little warmer and we use that in more traditional houses. Oxford White is a little brighter and more modern.

Palladium Blue is gorgeous- we used it in our master bedroom in the last house and will use it our master bathroom in this house.

We love Edgecomb Gray and have it on our walls. It is a slightly warmer gray and very neutral, so it doesn't scream Gray. I loved Balboa Mist too, but on our walls, there was a slight undertone of purple. Definitely try some sample paint on your walls before making a final decision. Grays especially can look so different in different lighting.

Tried Revere Pewter too because it's a popular one, but looked too beige, dark, and drab in our house because we don't have a lot of natural light. We have Palladian Blue in our bathrooms!

White Dove is a good color if you're going white. We used it on our baseboards.

@avivoca: Our downstairs hallway and stairway is Palladian Blue. It is lovely. We used to have the living/dining in the same color but after a few years the blueness of it started to feel too bright to me and I wanted something more of a gray. I still feel the blue is perfect for entryway/hallway/stairs though.

Oooh I know the answer to this question! :) The last two paint colors we used (for our living room and for LO's nursery) have me completely in love with them, and they've been on the walls for a couple years now.

Benjamin Moore Wickham Gray (in our living room)
Benjamin Moore Moonshine (DD's nursery)

They are both just so, so gorgeous. The Wickham Gray reads as just slightly light blue in our living room and it's the best.

@threeplusme: definitely test swatches!

I actually looked on Pinterest for the most popular colors and found ones I liked online, then went to the paint store and took the paint cards for all of them. Some of them looked so different in the store, I never would have picked them up, so I'm glad I had done research before. Then I taped them all up on the wall. Some I could remove immediately but any maybes I left up and came back to look at again and again. Then once I had it narrowed down to a couple I got the sample cans and painted on the wall or a poster board.

I've tried most of the BM colors everyone is suggesting and my advice is to do test swatches. I though I'd love revere pewter since it's so popular but it looked slightly purple in our rooms. I went with Edgecombe gray but also like Stonington gray too. I painted my kids rooms with behr colors I'd used before and found that he Behr covered better than the BM.

I picked out a color by Benjamin Moore that no one ever knows, it's called Sea Salt. It's greige, not to be confused with the Sherwin Williams color of the same name.

I really wanted something bolder, but we didn't have any furniture and I didn't want it to be too dated.

I hate neutrals so I had a really hard time picking one! We wound up with Behr's Light French Grey. It looks blue in some light and gray in others. Overall it is light enough to not be overwhelming but dark enough to look like there is color on the walls.
Our accent color is Mammoth mountain. It is bright and balances well with all the wood, tile, and carpet colors.

I'm not a huge fan of greige/beige paint, so I don't have any recommendations for that. But my favorite color is Palladian Blue from Benjamin Moore. My living room and hallway is painted this color and I have a dark brown accent wall in my living room (BM Rural Earth). I'm planning to paint my kitchen Palladian Blue as well. My cabinets are white up top and oak on the bottom.

This is a secondary swatch wall in our house. Balboa Mist at the top, then Pale Oak, then a non BM white color, then Revere Pewter. The left white is Swiss Coffee and the right is White Dove.

@PinkElephant: interesting you say that. I just picked up Grey Owl sample for my son's room. I have Revere Pewter and Pale Oak swatches on his wall and it didn't feel right. I'm probably going to use Balboa Mist in the second guest bathroom, which is a Jack & Jill. If we have more kids I doubt I will need to change the color. It's so good!

Another vote for edgecomb gray. We just painted our playroom with it and are about to the the big two story foyer. I have three friends who have used it in their main living areas as well. It really looks different in different lights. Butwehave white trim. With wood trim maybe you would want a little lighter? I also like pale oak and balboa mist from Benjamin Moore.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: My decorator friend suggested Balboa Mist to us (It wasn't even on my radar) and I LOVE it too - it's almost our whole house, except for areas that needed something a little warmer (Edgecomb Grey in the kitchen) or darker (Revere Pewter in a few bathrooms).

We swatched all sorts of gray and had the painters back three times for swatching and grays did not work - it all looked like concrete! I guess it's the lighting. We went with SW Grecian Ivory for our main neutral and SW Poolhouse for our accent. We love it and it works in all our spaces. We have a single story ranch with high ceilings in the main living spaces and master so the accent color is really soothing but gives a nice spark.
