@PinkElephant: I hate panels. HATE. I'm always pulling them up or adjusting them, and they feel itchy on my stomach.
The side panel thing is my jam. They do show, but I think they kind of look like pockets or something. Not as ugly as belly panels, anyway.
I haven't bought any shorts yet- its not really hot here until late June and I will be massive then. But I do have two pairs of pants from J.Crew and they are amazing. They stay up all day, and are comfortable. They do have denim shorts- so i might try there (although I think I will be fully in surrender mode and just get stretchy knit shorts or baggy drawstring type shorts when its time).

I was due in September so very pregnant in peak summer months.
I had a pair of Seven for All Mankind cut off shorts that I didn't find till I was about 34 weeks and omg I wish I had found them sooner. They were so so so soft and stretchy. I still dream about them 19 months PP. Full panel and I personally found those to be the best under a tighter shirt. I wore a lot of the gap maternity ribbed tanks and Loft had a lot of cute tighter shorts. Like @Foodnerd81: said, if I felt particularly hot I just folded it down to about a Demi panel.
For me, the full panel held things up the best. I had the ones from gap that are like a thick band under the belly. Nope nope nope. So uncomfortable for me at all stages of pregnancy. Squeezed me!

Also, dresses. Maxi dresses were my saving grace. I bought like five of the solid colored cheap old navy ones and dressed them up with fun necklaces and a denim vest. Nothing like being a hot large pregnant woman and just slipping something over my head and going.

@whiskers: Good to know - no problems with panel peeking out the bottom of your shirt? That's what's really bugging me at the moment! I don't really look pregnant so I feel like it looks weird if people can tell I'm wearing maternity shorts 😜

@PinkElephant: yea, they did wrinkle, a lot. I thought it didn't look to bad in the striped version but I would think in a light solid it might look worse.

I got my favorite maternity summer basics from Thyme Maternity- it was sold at Babies R Us so I gave it a try and ended up getting so much wear out of the shorts and tee shirts. I ended up ordering more stuff online.

I am full panel all the way. I wear mine even when I'm not pregnant because they are comfy and if I pull up a shirt to nurse they cover my belly of stretchmarks. I did get one with the side panel things and its the same size as my others, but they do not stay up on me at all @13 weeks so hoping I grow into them.

Also, I just wear maternity shirts all the time now. All my old stuff was long sleeve so I bought a few shirts for this time and I'm wearing them now to get more use since I won't wear them postpartum.

ETA: I have some non-denim (not sure what the material is called) from Kohls, denim ones from motherhood and denim ones from old navy.

@Foodnerd81: Thanks for the link - those are really cute! Did they wrinkle horribly? Linen and sitting on the floor with a toddler concerns me a little! 😊

@PinkElephant: the ones I had were sort of like these ones (though mine were patterned). And they go on sale so I got mine for like $8 and I figure I can wear them this summer with my post partum belly too. http://m.oldnavy.gap.com/product.html?dn=op118252032&dv=0&shopid=1&pdn=oc35158&outlet=false

But the motherhood ones were def nicer. I wanted the side panel ones but they were sold out in my size.

@regberadaisy: I feel like there's more out there now with panel style than when I bought clothes in my first pregnancy! I'm a 2-4 pre pregnancy in most brands.

@EBSC: cool, thanks! This is one of the styles I was wondering about - I didn't have any when I was pregnant before. I may need to go try them on.

@Foodnerd81: haha to the pregnancy muffin top! This isn't normally an issue for me, but all the higher waisted jeans I bought for sitting on the floor with my kids are definitely Creating a bit as the bloat bump grows! Good cal on the elastic/drawstring; that (or even knit waist) might work for awhile!

I am NOT a fan of full panel maternity pants. I run HOT when pregnant and it just feels suffocating. I prefer the ones that go under the belly!

@PinkElephant: what size are you? I have 2-3 colored pairs that I could list?

I had a full panel denim pair that I really liked, stayed up well and were nice and smooth under shirts. Sometime I folded down to make a half panel if I felt hot or something.

For earlier on I had a pair of linen drawstring shorts from old navy, non maternity but the waist was low and elastic. But they only worked until a certain point then it was like pregnant muffin top city.

I had one pair of full panel that got a bit hot, but stayed up really well. I think they were from Motherhood. My favorite shorts though we're from Old Navy and they had the side panels instead of anything over the belly. I was in the second tri in the summer, and it was perfect-- no hotter than regular shorts, and they didn't leave any weird lines under tanks

Something like this: http://m.oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=119994012&vid=1&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdkw=maternity-side-panel-cuffed-shorts-P119994

I just dragged out my stash of maternity clothes and am really unimpressed with my selection of shorts...I mainly have full or demi panel shorts, and I feel like the panel portion of those dips down too low - if I wear a regular shirt (I don't really need maternity at this point), you can see the panel bottom, which I hate.

Soooo, since it's about to get hot, I think it's time to go shopping. :) Any favorite brands/styles to recommend?

And while we're talking panels...what do you find is the most "invisible" style of panel (for jeans, shorts, or leggings) when wearing tighter shirts? Below the belly, or full belly coverage?

Thanks for your thoughts!
