My current favourite is "Discipline without Distress" by Judy Arnall and "Peaceful Parent, Happy Kid" by Laura Markham. Those are good toddler books. For babies I liked Dr. Sears' stuff, although he is not helpful with toddlers and sometimes is a little over the top.

There is one by the AAP written by pediatrician moms - I think it's something like "heading home: from birth to reality" (my copy is on loan!). It was really helpful.

Heading home with your newborn was really helpful the first few months--what is typical, when to be concerned, etc. Harvey Karp's happiest baby and happiest toddler on the block are good basic reference points. The first is more about soothing and the second is a quick intro to behavior management in a positive way. Becky Bailey is another good resource for positive and intentional parenting. So excited that you are getting so close to placement!

I loved No Bad Kids by Janet Lansbury. I suggest that audio book. It's narrated by her, and I appreciate hearing her tone.

We are quickly moving towards becoming foster parents. We've completed our CPR class, are half way through our home study, and have turned in every last piece of paperwork. It's getting close now. I feel pretty confident about the basics of dealing with babies (we are hoping for an infant, ideally a newborn who might be likely to be adoptable) but I would really like to do some reading over the next few weeks/months to prepare and organize my thoughts. I've had enough experience that the basics come pretty naturally to me, but I enjoy researching and have spent so much time researching TTC and pregnancy, I haven't had a chance to start reading about parenting (plus it was too hard when I was TTC and not sure if/when it was ever going to work).

So I'd love to hear what your favorite books are! Thanks.
