I feel like the new Cat & Jack stuff for girls at Target is really cute! They actually have some of the same things that they do in the toddler section or at least it looks similar at a glance.

Oddly enough I've found that I like some of The Children's Place for this age. We've got some cute dresses, skorts and shirts this summer. I avoid a lot of the clothes with words, but that's just a personal issue.

I've really liked Lands End for swimwear and I like the look of their clothes online but I haven't sprung for them yet.

I've been shopping more at Belk and zulily these days. My girl loves to wear dresses and skirts. She's not well shaped for jeans and I really dread the day we have to go jeans shopping.

6/7 is an awkward stage for girls clothing.. My almost 8 yr old would just love to shop at Justice always (it is not nearly as tacky these days as it used to be). She mainly wants to wear jeggings and graphic t's so we shop anywhere there is a good sale for those. Includes Tea, Nordstrom Rack, Osh Kosh (bigger sizes than Carters), Old Navy. It is not the most exciting time, fashion wise. Boden just changed their sizing so that the johnnie b line includes smaller sizes and vice versa. I have been meaning to look more closely. Also right now, Activewear is very popular. E.g. Under Armor. Just kill me! Forever 21 sometimes is cute. and Zara.

@LuLu Mom: sounds the same as my daughter! She only wants to wear dresses. I usually love Carters too! I like their stuff for 5T but not loving the stuff for girls sizes so far

I usually love Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree and Target but not loving this year's clothes for girls sizes. Maybe when the winter line comes out.

The best I've found so far is Tea in girl sizes and Hanna Andersson. Not loving the styles this season for Boden or crewcuts so far

My daughter is almost 4, and all of her XS from last year is too short, so I will be buying S this year (she has a freakishly long torso!) I struggle because she's so young yet! I'm thinking Carter's and Old Navy and she's all about dresses (which we struggle with length on) so I'm hoping I can find some cheap ones to pair with leggings. Tunics don't' really work with her due to the long torso.

Have you looked at Lands End? I feel like their stuff is timeless, for all ages.

Also Boden and Ralph Lauren.

So hard....... Even Gap can be hit or miss at this size.

I'm also so hesitant to stock up too much because I dont know when she will switch from little girl styles to bigger girl styles.

If you're willing to spend a bit more and shop sales (or have a great local high-end consignment shop/buy-sell-trade group), I think this is the size range where more classic brands like Boden, Tea Collection, Hanna Andersson, Lands' End, L.L. Bean, and Garnet Hill can be really useful. The styles are a bit more classic, with varying levels of quirkiness....but aren't too "mature"/overly sexualized/trendy or babyish. Most of these lines run in size 2 or 4 up to 8 or even 10/12.

I'm just starting to buy size 6 for my DD, and I feel the same way you do. I don't want to dress my 5 year-old like a tween. I've been getting her stuff from Tea, Mini Boden, and the HA outlet. I feel like these brands have clothes that are not babyish but not too "mature." Unfortunately they're definitely more expensive than Gap/Old Navy/Target, so I just make sure to wait for a good sale.

Crewcuts/J. Crew outlet and then smaller independent brands are good too but more expensive and harder to find deals, I think.

Two of my friends have little girls in the 5-7 age range - there's a lot of cute stuff at H&M, and also at JCrew and Boden if you're willing to wait for sales (or pay more!)

I've got a long way until I'm there, but I've been wondering this too! I don't ever see anything in stores that I love for the early elementary age.

Following. I've definitely struggled to buy clothes for my older daughter now that she is size 6-7. I think there's a gap in the market for this age group. You don't want them to wear anything too babyish, but they're too young for the more mature looks. I don't love any one store for her at the moment so I feel like I'm always browsing and just have to grab the things that I like when I see it.

My LO is a little over 4.5 and I'm going to buy her size 6 for her fall/winter school clothes. So I still like the style of the 5T clothes at all the places I used to shop but that's the last size in those styles. I'm just not loving the style for the girls section of clothes. Just wondering where others love to shop for their girls past the 5T stage. Thanks!
