@PinkElephant: We have the ladybug version of the twilight turtle and my DD (22 months) doesn't mind the lights not moving. She make me turn it on every night when I put her to bed.

We use dollar store glow sticks! She usually ends up with it under her blanket but can easily find it if she wakes up scared and it doesn't throw much light at all. They are mostly faded by morning. We call them magic wands ;)

@PinkElephant: my kids don't notice the lack of movement in the turtle. DD1 is 30 months and loves to find the moon and count the stars, so I think there's enough going on without movement! :)

We have this one for the changing table at night (don't change him at night anymore but now he likes to play with it).
It's a really soft glow but enough to see in front of you. Might be perfect for your needs!

Also really interested in the twighight turtle - do anyone's kids care that the lights don't "move' in any way? I was all set to buy one for DD's 1st birthday but just realized there's no movement.

Hope this isn't detracting from your original post too much!

Another vote for the twilight turtle. We've used it since LO was an infant and now she loves to find the "moon" before bed :)

We've been using this cheap-o one for a couple of years now. Just picked it up at Target one day for a hotel stay.

http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Lumee-Bear-Night-Light/dp/B00BTKE0W4

It's been great and he loves it. We have the twilight turtle, too, but he's never really warmed up to it.

@Rattles - we have a gummy bear light as well and it's great! We used to use it almost like a flashlight for nursing in the MOTN. :-)

We like the Twilight Turtle, but we also like this gummy bear light from Land of Nod. DD can carry it with her to the bathroom like a little lantern. You turn it on by squeezing its tummy, and it turns off automatically after 45 minutes.

We have this one and it works great. Rechargeable and soft. Not a ton of light but probably enough for comfort in a dark room. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-Disney-SoftPals-Mickey-Integrated-LED-Portable-Night-Light-797811/205503611

We still use the Cloud B Turtle night light with LO: http://www.toysrus.com/buy/sound-and-light-soothers/cloud-b-tranquil-turtle-nightlight-7423-aq-15653666

It projects light up onto the ceiling that either moves or it steady, but you can also easily cover it with cloth to restrict the light further. Has nice music, or just oceanwhite noise with adjustable volume.

What about the Twilight Turtle? It gives off a pretty low amount of light (especially if you use the amber light setting), and it shuts off after about 30-40 minutes. And it projects stars and the moon on the ceiling. D loves to look for the moon while we read our books at bedtime.

Any suggestions for me? I have one kid who is scared of the dark and one that is annoyed by a nightlight (if on all night) sharing a room. I don't want to deal with extension cords or timers.
