I've also heard great reviews on the Scootababy carrier. It's a hip only carry, though.

For a hip carry we use our ring sling. Ours is by Sakura Bloom, which gets pricey depending on the fabric you choose, but I've heard great things about the Maya

@allison: The sewing slots are a bummer! I have a navy one, and I'm thinking of buying a gray or oatmeal colored one. LO is a girl, but the navy sling fools people... I just really like navy.

@allison: I got a linen one in storm gray. I got a sewing slot last week. They were all gone within 15 minutes after I ordered. But she does them though out the day over a few days. When I went on there later in the week, there were still slots.

Our favorite is an adjustable Hot Sling; I hip carry all the time and LO is well over 20 pounds. I could carry her all day in that thing!

@mrskc: @Weagle: I'd never heard of Sleeping Baby Productions before! Prices are definitely so much more affordable. I'm gonna have to keep checking back to get a "sewing slot" though. Bummer.

Ring slings are excellent! I have a Comfy Joey Ellevill conversion (so an Ellevill wrap made into a ring sling) that I adore. They are super-fast and easy and it is the carrier I use most when I'm out and about and know Lorelei will want to be up/down lots. Some things to consider: there are lots of tutorials and patterns available online for making ring slings-- if you know someone who sews, it might be a less expensive way to have an excellent ring sling in the fabric of your choice. Comfy Joey will also do wrap conversions for a fairly modest price (under $40 I believe), so if you found a used wrap that you liked you could have it re-made into a sling and might have the total come out less than a "new" comfy joey. There are also lots of other great brands out there in varying price ranges.

I'm in the exact same boat, I ordered a Maya sling off Amazon since they have free returns. I'll report back later this week :) I want a hip carry because I think it'll keep us both less sweaty now that it is hot!

Sorry, I apparently need lots of gear advice this evening...

My 17 lb baby is just too heavy for me to carry around for very long before my arm feels like it's going to fall off. I have an Ergo, which we love for outings, but I was thinking a simple sling would be nice for around the house. Something I could just leave on all the time and pop him into (in the hip carry position) whenever I pick him up.

I'd love a woven wrap one day, but I don't think that's what I'm looking for now because of all the fabric and the expense.

I got one of the free ones from Seven Slings, but it's too small. So I was thinking one of the adjustable ones with the buckle would work well?

Looking at this one: http://www.amazon.com/The-Peanut-Shell-Adjustable-Whisper/dp/B004L9H18K/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Anyone tried and liked one of these? Reviews I've read are mixed, but I think a lot of them are referring to use while baby is small and not on the hip.
