I originally didn't like the Dohm because it's kind of weird looking but I think I have been convinced. We will use it in our master bedroom to, hopefully, drown out some of the baby noises that will keep me up.

Same as @Danizaur:! It was cheap and we love it. Used for every nap and night time sleep for nearly 22 months, and it's still going strong. And the projector has been really helpful during some hysterical MOTN teething wake ups!

@Little Misters Mom: yeah I remember when that first came out. I'm more mindful now if not having it up too loud for sure, but I have never come anywhere close to the max volume on my machine.

Just a PSA, to fellow sound machine junkies. Some of the machines currently marketed for babies hit unsafe decibels and can damage hearing. I didn't know this and had the dohm right up next to the crib by his head. We moved it further away and he still sleeps fine.

I use an ipod and dock and made a playlist of a few songs I like to sing to lo and then 13 hours of ocean noise comes on after that. I like having the music option and that I can change it when I want.

We have a sound machine by Conair. My MIL had it at home and wasn't using it. We love it. We always keep it on the "white noise" sound but there are different options. We had a sleep sheep for travel but I didn't want to use it at night because ours shuts off after 45 minutes. If we go away for a night I use an app on our phone.

@Foodnerd81: Its not a digital machine, so the noise is made by air blowing through holes. It's like sleeping with an ac unit or loud fan. Most digital machines cycle, which drives some people nuts and can cause light sleepers to wake. Plus it's super durable and I don't have to worry about charging it like the iPad, which has our backup sound machine app. And it travels well. At least that why it's a winner in my book.

We have this $20 one from homedics (https://m.bedbathandbeyond.com/m/product/homedics-reg-soundspa-reg-sound-machine/1013630208). It's fine, we just use the white noise but it also has ocean waves and stuff. We are on our second after Dh dropped the first a little too hard. I like that I can turn it quite loud when needed (like when they are doing construction next store). It can take batteries so t won't shut off in case of a power outage and can be moved, but we usually plug it in.

I think you need something continuous, not a sleep sheep that turns off after 45 min.

I don't really understand all the love for the dohm. What makes it so special? Not asking rhetorically because I know people love it, just missing something.

I have the sleep sheep (travel sized). It works for us. The sound quality is moderate, but I like that it doesn't need to plug in and it's small enough to bring around the house (although I usually only use it in DD's room these days). It really helps DD relax and get to sleep at night.
