I've used so many different things and they all suck in their own ways. In the end, I've settled on the take and toss straw cups and I've actually been the most satisfied with them.

@googly-eyes: I have tried the avent cup. I loved the cup for many reasons (see through, big - I ordered the 9oz cup, thick straws which are perfect for smoothies and easy to clean). However, the lid was so hard to open and I have osteoarthritis on both of my wrists and it was too painful for me.

@sweet_p: Thanks, that does help! I have been looking and looking and I think that's what we're going to go with. I am going to keep our zoli around as long as possible and get a few of these as we are in the process of bottle weaning and finding the zoli/straw easiest for lo! Guess I'll be seeing how they work soon!

@Banana: I would recommend it. We have 3 of them (for juice, water and milk) and haven't had any issues. The price point is also a lot lower than the Zoli.

@googly-eyes: We've had ours for a few months now and I haven't had any problems with mold, but I do wash them often with hot water and soap. They are very simple to clean, because there are only 4 parts - cup, lid, hard plastic straw and soft plastic straw. I use a straw brush to clean inside the smaller areas. Hope this helps!

ETA: This is the only one we found that didn't allow the milk to bubble out as it warmed up.

We have the Zoli cups and are still using them, but I have a love hate relationship with it:

Love:
- LO didn't take any kind of sippy / straw cups except this one when we needed to transition him off of bottles and get ready for daycare;
- OK easy to clean, OK convenient. (we bought a straw brush)
- i like how it has a plastic "weight" on the end of the straw so he can drink at any position and still get the liquid.
- Made in Taiwan (vs. every other brand I found is made in China: we do not want to use Made In China products when it comes to food)
- Cute, of course. People admire our cups anywhere we go.
- I like starting out with straw directly (we never had a sippy stage - I don't think he understands how to use a sippy), because now there is no learning curve when teaching him how to use a regular straw.

Hate:
- spills and overflows!!!!! The liquid pushes itself out because the pressure inside of the cup. Argh!
- It does seem to get moldy at the connection of the straw and lid, I try to wash it but it is a bit scary.
- The straw does get torn after a few months. They do sell replacement straws though.
- Now this is the part I don't understand. No matter how much I wash it repeatedly and make sure it is 100% clean, when I put water and drink from it, it has a sweet taste to it. I do not understand why. I don't even use the straw lid and drink that little bit of water directly from the cup, it still has this sweet taste. Note that the cup itself (without lid) is just a cup so it is not a matter of "difficult to clean completely". So I am not quite sure what's the deal.

I have to figure out an exit strategy but don't know what to go to yet.... again it is almost impossible to find anything that is not made in China....

@SleepyMonkey: @wheres_c: @Weagle: @Mrs. Confetti: What kind of Nuby straw cup do you use? We're also looking into a different cup - we have the Playtex kind, which is fine for water, but LO really likes to turn the straw cup upside down and bang it on the high chair tray. I don't know if any straw cup can stand up to that and not leak... would the Nuby leak if it was turned upside down?

Our Zoli cups leaked like crazy too! Liquid would also spray out of the straw and dribble down the sides. It was great for teaching my LO how to drink from a straw, but I won't be buying them ever again.

OMG I hate hate hated our zoli cup! It leaked all the time! At first, I thought I found a solution for it (rescrew the lid on until it stops leaking) but it only worked for a short period of time. It also started to get moldy for some reason (around the straw opening), even though we only put water in it. I tossed ours. We use the Munchkin Mighty Grip cups and I really like those. I don't find them hard to clean at all.

Hmm... I have a Zoli cup but don't have an issue with leaking. I mean, when the straw is up, it can leak, but when closed it doesn't seem to.

I do know that when I don't screw the lid on correctly, it leaks, but if it leaks, I know I just didn't screw the lid on right and I fix it and then it doesn't leak. Am I missing something?

@emg86: @autumnlove: @lovehoneybee: @calsmom: I'm seeing this post JUST as I was thinking about ordering more Zolis. We've only been using them a couple days...when/where are the leaks?? Is it after putting it through the dishwasher too many times? I haven't noticed leaks yet but I guess they're coming. :(

eta..I just started looking at some amazon reviews and one of them said not to force the lid too tight, that that makes the liquid come up the straw, which I'm inclined to believe because that's part of how you clean the straw according to the zoli website...

We never even tried the sippy cup, we went straight to the straw cup and he's been great with it.

If I could do it over again I wouldn't bother with the Zoli. The leaks drive me crazy and I'm annoyed that I had to buy a separate cleaning straw (because ew). Did I mention the leaks? It's fine as long as it's sitting right, but with an older infant/toddler, it never ever stays that way, so I'm constantly cleaning up after it. E loves it, though, and I really like the weighted straw. Overall, though, still wouldn't buy it again.

We also have a Skip Hop straw bottle. Also leaks, but it doesn't bug me as much since I paid less than half for it. And it fits more easily into the cup holder of the stroller. The rotating top bit that covers the straw broke off after the first or second drop, though, so it never "closes". Overall I like it well enough for the price.

Lastly we have the Munchkin Mighty Grip Flip Straw Cups. Amazon has them 2/$7.99, I got my single at Kmart for about $2 or so (maybe $3...definitely not more, though. I had forgotten to throw a bottle in the stroller before we had left the house). I actually really like this one a lot. Still a little bit of leaking when dropped with force, but nothing like the Zoli or Skip Hop. The cap is occasionally hard for me to open, and there are no measurements on it, which could be a big minus if that's important to you. And it's a pain to clean, but they all are, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm ordering the OXO ones now @luckypenny: !
