Well, I just had a baby in the last month and its over 100 degrees here, but between the postpartum hormonal shifts and what not, I've actually had a lot of days where I've felt under the weather and wanted really hearty comforting food. So I agree it doesn't all have to be cold.

And because I'm breastfeeding, having calorie dense foods that I can eat fast have been key (like, I've eaten an entire bag of fried chicken myself over the last few days and my husband is forever running to get me French fries and cheeseburgers!)

Breads have been my friend lately. Parmesan cheese bagels with cream cheese, cinnamon raisin toast with butter, muffins, etc. Something that might be great is like a deconstructed sub sandwich. Like, get an entire loaf of French bread, pull out some of the bread in the middle, load it up with cheese and meat and then cut it up into portions. Wrap it all up in plastic wrap and bring along the "wet" stuff separately - lettuce, tomato, onion, condiments, pickles, etc.

Watermelon. So hydrating and delicious right now. A platter of sliced up watermelon would be lovely.

peanut sesame noodle salad? you can bring the dressing in a separate jar--that gets tossed with the noodles only before eating because otherwise it breaks down the noodles.

I was going to say sangria and cookies, but those aren't protein :-). I loved grilled chicken with a lemon pepper marinade.

I made a crockpot of slow cooked BBQ pork shoulder before my LO was born in May and it has been great on sandwiches, tacos, or plain with some yummy sides. The recommendations above all sound great as well!

LO was a summer baby and we grilled up proteins the day we wanted to eat them and paired with green or grain or pasta salads we had big batches of. So, you could always bring them some plain steaks, chicken, etc. or meat in ziplock baggies in marinade and let them cook them up or freeze as they like.

We did a lot of BBQ chicken as it pairs well with lots of stuff: potato salad, green salad, southwestern quinoa salad, cold pesto pasta salad, traditional macaroni salad, etc.

You could do quinoa instead of pasta in the pasta salad for protein. Or a bunch of precut sandwich fixins' (lettuce, onion, raw spinach, pickles, tomatoes, banana peppers, sprouts) with some ciabatta or baguettes or sandwich rolls. Thinking about this is making me crave a sandwich! :silly:

I also like @faithfertility's idea of chicken kabobs. Maybe make a couple dipping sauces to go with.

If you were taking dinner to a friend and her family who just had a baby and it is currently 100+ degrees out, what would you take them? I'm trying to think of something not heavy, since who wants to eat a heavy meal when it's so hot. I know i'll be taking a bowl of fruit, pasta salad, and a garden salad, but want a protein of some sort to go with!
