@Thehistoryofus: I commented on your thread about starting to CD but I guess I missed the part where you said you'd be using flats instead of the actual inserts in the hybrid shell; if that's the case I would recommend Best Bottom shells since they have double gussets to help contain everything (Grovias have a single gusset on the shell then an additional gusset on the snap-in insert and Flips only have a single gusset).

@ustechie: What kind of insert? While we're in the hospital we'll be using disposables (the ones that the hospital provides) and we'll take all the extras and use those when we first get home, lol (from what I hear I'll get probably 2 days worth of extras from the hospital I'm delivering at). By then he should be done passing the meconium and it should just be regular breast milk poo.

So, to answer your question, no, I don't plan on using any extra inserts. I'll just be using my flats (I have Swaddlebees).

I'm also hoping to use prefolds with a shell for at home, but using pockets for on-the-go or babysitters. I like the angel fold and I like this video too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gasWvBJEDlU&feature=related

On a side note, since you said you'll be using on a newborn, are you going to use an insert? I'm not sure what to do, but I guess it makes sense with the meconium...

Would love to hear more about this. I am hoping to use prefolds with my baby with a shell (currently looking at Flips and GroVia).

I haven't tried flats. Curious to hear your experience using them on a newborn once NavyBaby arrives.

I'm have WAY too much fun watching YouTube videos on how to fold flat diapers right now! Since I'll be using flats a lot when NavyBaby is a newborn, people have already recommended the poo catcher and the diaper bag folds because apparently they're good for small babies.

What's your preferred fold?
