They do a lot of math in kindergarten, and we just try to reinforce the concepts at home. For example, they have learned about money and values of currency. If I get some change from the cashier, I'll ask him to count the change. Also I'll tell him that so and so cost $x and I give the cashier $y. How much change should I get back?

Bedtime Math is also one of his favorite books now. They have a free app as well.

For counting and adding/subtracting, I like to use an abacus, number line and ten frames to encourage my son to use different methods to solve problems. Coins and paper money are also options for counting by 5, 10, 15, etc and for teaching fractions.

Also, dice are great, both regular for identification and math dice for problem solving.

When it comes time to do fractions, we'll get an Osmo extension. I am a product junkie, though, I regularly scour amazon for things.

Have your LO draw two cards out of a deck and add/subtract. Helps them to visualize if they need to count the symbols on the cards to add up the amounts.

We do this a lot with fruit/treats.

1) it makes DD slow down when eating. 2) fruits and treats I ration out - so its easy to count with them.

My LO seems really interested in adding/subtracting and numbers in general. What are your favorite math or counting games to play with your kids? Whether they are using something you have around the house, a toy, a game...what are your favorite ways to practice counting?
