DH was thoroughly convinced we were having twins, and i have no idea why. he had me scared and nervous because of how 'sure' he was. we both breathed a sigh of relief at the NT scan when there was only 1....however, i had a dream a couple weeks ago that when i delivered there were 2 in there...one had been 'hiding' lol i know there is only one, but it's still a scary thought and i think it's ok that you feel that way.

It's a scary thing, but I'm sure if you do have twins in there you will be thrilled when you hear the announcement. it will be more work but twice the blessing. My cousin just had twins on Friday and yes she had complications which would have made a home birth impossible (Both babies were breach) but it's all part of going with the flow and doign what is necessary for the baby/babies.

I am currently pregnant (22 weeks!) with twin boys. Let me tell you, when I found out at 8.5 weeks I immediately cried! This is our first pregnancy and first round of kids. I was so overwhelmed for quite a while, and now we've just had to adjust our thinking. Family and friends are very eager to help in any way, and I am doing as much as I can to prepare in advance.
My first trimester was the exact opposite of MerryC's - I was so sick that I ended up in the ER and needed IV fluids twice. I was medicated with Zofran until 17 weeks when I was finally able to wean myself off of it!

I guess what I'm saying is take it one step at a time. :) Find out first if you're having multiples - then you can tackle those feelings when they arise.

I go in on Thursday for my 1st US and wonder if there might be two due to some increased symptoms and the fact that Hubs and I are both twins. There's nothing wrong with not wanting twins, and if you are given two, you 'll be able to handle it!

You totally shouldn't feel bad! My sister is having twins and cried when she found out. She really didn't want twins and was upset and felt guilty about being so upset for a really long time. But now, she's super excited! She wanted two kids and hated being pregnant so she sees it as a blessing in disguise. But her initial feelings of not wanting twins is totally legit because she also wanted a natural birth experience and was also scared of having a complicated labor/delivery. Not to mention, they can't really afford two kids at this time (especially day care costs). But she's making it work and so will you! :)

Also, if it makes you feel any better, I've heard that your increased risk based on family history of fraternal twins is only 17% higher.
My dad's a twin - my gma didn't find out she was having twins until one was born and the dr said "You'll probably have the other one within a few hours" she said "uhh... WHAT other one?!"

I am a twin and I freaked out with both ob my BFP thinking "what if it's twins." Take a deep breath, you are not a horrible person for thinking this as twins bring a lot more responsibility and you are already looking at a lot with your husband's deployment so close to your due date. Like @merryc said, if it is twins there are lots of people/places to get support.

As for your grandmother's family history I have been told by multiple doctors/nurses/technicians/etc that fraternal twins tend to run in families not identical so you might want to find out what kind of twins her siblings all had and know that just because it "runs in the family" doesn't mean it will happen to you.

For what it's worth, I know 2 different people that had twins and they both freaked out. I highly doubt you are alone.

Of course you're not a horrible person- it's sooooo much work to have one baby let alone two! But I'm sure if you did have twins, you'd find a way to handle it and love them both like crazy. That's just what you have to do. If it makes you feel better- the girls on 16 on pregnant can do it, so I'm sure you would be able to do it too!

First off, I wouldn't seriously worry about multiples until you have an ultrasound that shows more than one baby. I'm having twins, and my first tri really was not bad at all...I don't think I showed any earlier and I didn't puke once. There's just as wide a variance in symptoms of multiple gestations and singletons, and there is honestly no way to know until you have an ultrasound. So take a deep breath and don't freak out until you have a reason to :)

Second, multiples ARE a huge deal and a total game changer in a lot of ways. You have every right to freak out at the thought. That said, if you are having twins, stay positive. Work on getting a support system since your husband will be gone. People know how tough twins are, and are SO willing to help however they can both before and after the babies come. There are moms of multiples groups all over the country that have great resales of multiples gear, and will actually support you with babysitting and food. It's truly not the end of the world, but it definitely means some special preparation.

As far as the medical side, I agree that there aren't many providers that would agree to a homebirth. But it doesn't necessarily mean that you're doomed to a million complications. It definitely can, but I'm also sitting here at 27 weeks with not a single worry, and Tequiero delivered her twins at full term!

I'm 8 weeks along in my first pregnancy, and my tummy is already bigger than usual and I can't suck it in at all. My morning sickness is kind of terrible (vomiting a minimum of 3 sessions a day), and my mom had none whatsoever with her 2. My grandma informed me that half her siblings had twins, and her dad was a twin. I'm scared my husband actually got his wish for twins. And I feel so guilty for wishing that it is NOT multiples. If we find out it is, I don't think I can even vaguely mask my horror at the thought.

My husband is scheduled to deploy for 6 months, with 3 weeks or so of prep and travel, 4 months after my due date. While I don't want to be a single mom for 7 months, the idea of being a single mom to infant twins for 7 months terrifies me. I also want a homebirth, and the chances of complications skyrockets with multiples.

Would I be a horrible person for thinking like this if I am in fact carrying multiples?
