Same here! My first could nurse for 10 hours a day (for real) and never be done. My second was puking just all the time, constantly, until I figured out that she just does not need to nurse as often. I started watching more for her cues and less offering it because 'it was time' or if she fussed a little bit. I also put the boob away when she started pulling off instead of encouraging her to take more. Problem solved!

@travellingbee: Just one side per feeding is great then and will help with your supply. I am a leaky squirty mess still and my DD is 9 months old! :silly:

I agree with @Mrs.Someone: that you should try laid back nursing, this is a good explanation
https://breastfeedingusa.org/content/article/some-ins-and-outs-laid-back-breastfeeding
Gravity will help slow the flow which can help to reduce the spitting.
One other thing I would do is take frequent breaks to burp her to slow down her guzzling!

I wouldn't cut him off. If he is spitting up but happy and gaining weight, I'd just let him keep sucking. Breastfeeding isn't all about the milk transfer, there is a comfort aspect about it too. Your supply will regulate, just give it time. It's still SO early. Once your supply is established (6ish weeks), then maybe offer a soother if he wants to suck, but I wouldn't offer one yet. Congrats!

@mrswin: Just offering one side. The LC at the hospital said that was preferable so that he can still get the fatty hind milk. He is only eating for like 10 minutes because it just pours out. But he wants to suck. Yes, my let down is very strong and fast. This is such a new problem to me because I had very average supply last time! Now I'm a leaky squirty mess!

@travellingbee: My DD was/is a boobaholic and did this all the time as an infant. Often she wild want to suck for comfort but I had a fast letdown and oversupply so she would constantly get milk and keep drinking until she puked!

Are you offering one side per feeding or both? Is your letdown fast?

Don't cut him off! Talk to an IBCLC. I've heard one great remedy is leaning back while nursing. He will regulate himself. I wouldn't be worried unless he isn't gaining well.

Providing there's no issues with weight gain then I would probably cut him off and offer a dummy. Fingers crossed your supply starts to regulate soon!

So I have always fed on demand (except I also wake after 2 hours to feed when they are itty bitty). But my supply is a bit nuts this time and my LO is eating until he spits up or occasionally vomits it all up. I called the doctor about the puke and they said it sounds like he is overeating. He guzzles down the milk. I can hear it. So my question is, do I let him keep eating as long/often as he wants or cut him off?!

Ets: he's gaining well. He's back over birthweight at 10days old and he is getting about 3 oz a feeding when he stops before spitting up. (I've done weighed feelings)
