@LAGS: she was shy of 3 months when we started. We saw improvement within 4 days but it was consistently better after a week and a half. After 2 weeks she never cried longer than 10 minutes. She is 4 months old now and usually goes down without a peep. Sometimes she cries for around 1 minute before falling asleep.

Naps are a different story. I thought she was too young for nap training at the time. Sometimes she goes down for a nap on her own with no crying. Usually though I nurse her down. I will nap train when she is 5 months old. I didn't want her crying all day at 3 mos.

@plantains: How many nights did it take for you guys to see improvement? Did you treat naps the same?

@c.sassy: I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you that it doesn't!

@LAGS: I think it was a total fluke :) I'm sure the weekend (aka having her daddy around!) will mess it all up :)

@LAGS: something to note is that for us, once she figured out how to go down the nightwakings automatically improved.

@C.Sassy: Only 20 mins! Woo hoo, good job! That's exactly our goal too. I'm ok with a couple night feedings but girlfriend needs to figure out this falling asleep business.

I checked in on her ever 3, 5, 10 mins etc. and in a little under an hour she fell asleep! Feeling pretty happy right now. I think it's the method to use for us because my checking on her calmed her immediately... she screamed pretty good while leaving but it at least calmed her for a little while.

Graduated extinction reall annoyed my LO so we ended up doing a combo of graduated and full on. We would come in after 10 mins to calm her down but after that we didn't goi in anymore as going in just seemed to work her up more.

We're in the process of teaching our 6 month old how to go to sleep on her own. I have no clue if we're using an established method, but I do know that most of the time it just makes her more furious if I come into the room to calm her down.

We have a little pre-bed/nap routine. Then I lay her in the bed and go back in every 5-10 minutes to calm her down as needed. So far, it's taken over an hour for naps to be successful. Bedtime tonight was only about 20 minutes!

I'm attempting my first night of sleep training with my 6 month old tonight. We're doing graduated extinction but I'm curious to hear feedback others have on other methods like full on extinction and extinction with parental presence.

Has anyone else tried these other methods? I'm sure many have extinction, but with parental presence?
