@Foodnerd81: yep! Easier transition than I imagined. If you ever need to skip a nursing session id give a cup of milk instead!

@Adira: gotcha, thanks. The link is helpful, too. She also eats lots of cheese and yogurt so I thinks she's good.

@mrsjyw: ok good, sounds like we are doing the same and it worked for you.

@Foodnerd81: oh when we first introduced almond milk we just gave him some w meals! Didnt really have much since we were still nursing! He took almond milk in a straw cup starting at 11/11.5 months. Since he's still getting nutrition from bmilk I wouldnt really worry about amounts of reg milk yet!

@Foodnerd81: Including! That 2-3 cups is total, so you don't need to nurse 4 times a day and then try to get another 2-3 cups of milk into her!

ETA: I think that if you're still nursing four times a day, she is probably getting plenty of milk. I would just offer some with meals, but not really worry about trying to up her intake or anything.

@mrsjyw: I don't want to replace any sessions (for now) so that's why I'm lost. If I wanted to wean I feel like I'd have a better idea of what to do, but I'm confused about doing both.

I always find this blog post helpful in terms of nutrition:

http://www.hellobee.com/2014/01/27/toddler-eating-cheat-sheet/

It's for toddlers who are 2, but I try to use it as something to work towards.

I think at 12 months, Xander was on 3 solids a day and we started replacing nursing/bottles with cups of milk. After being completely weaned, I realized Xander was drinking as much milk as he had been prior (when he was still taking bottles), so we ended up incorporating yogurt into his day, either with meals or as a snack.

Now at 18 months, he usually has 3 meals and 2 snacks. We give him milk in a sippy at every meal and also with his snacks, though he usually only drinks about 3 oz at a time (so if we're lucky, he gets about 15 oz of milk, which is why we also try to give him 6 oz of yogurt during the day).

I think our pediatrician said they should have 2-3 cups of milk/dairy a day at 12+ months.

At first we ended up replacing nursing sessions with a cup of milk, when we fully weaned, we had to cut down DS' milk intake because he was taking in a lot! (and still does drink more than the average for his age). Once we were all done with nursing, he was on 3 solid meals, 2ish snacks, and 3 straw cups of milk, sometimes 4!

I feel a little lost on this whole baby to toddler transition, in terms of adding in whole milk, while not weaning from breastfeeding, how much solids vs breastmilk vs whole milk to be giving her...

Does any one have any good links or books or whatever to recommend?

C is almost 13 months. She still nurses 4 times a day, 3 solids meals a day. I have started offering whole milk at meals, which she is actually taking to surprisingly well (to the point that I got really scared she wouldn't want to nurse last night and had to remind myself that she IS growing up). I realize she will need to start getting more and more of her nutrition from sources other than breastmilk, even if we continue until she wants to wean herself. And ideally, we can get to the point where she doesn't *need* breastmilk if I'm away, but then do we just add a snack? a cup of milk?

I guess I'm babbling, but I don't have anyone IRL who really breastfed much past a year to talk about it with.

ETA: Our pediatrician is pretty laid back with all these things. Our conversation was pretty much- yes, you can start offering WCM. It's great that you are still breastfeeding! Keep up the good work, see you in three months.
