This is a great article about why you should feed one breast at a time. Just read it yesterday! http://www.llli.org/llleaderweb/lv/lvsepoct95p69a.html

Thanks for this thread! I've totally been having the same issue! I'm always worried he hasn't had enough to eat.

Thanks! I was pumping from time to time, which seems counterproductive for an oversupply. I was worried about keeping my supply, but it sounds like everything should adjust.

Same here as the other comments.

My son has NEVER taken both breasts in one feeding. I just switch each feeding.

LO was the same way. I just alternated sides.

Once LO was STTN, I would always pump (both sides) before going to bed, so I wasn't too engorged on one side.

My LO has always only nursed one side at a time. Only occasionally will he take the second breast. Then I just offer the other breast at the next feeding. I would just do that. If you pump the other side, you're going to signal your body to produce even more milk and cause even more of an oversupply. Your body will adjust. I had a crazy let down on my left breast that made nursing that side a pain. He would always pop off and milk would go squirting everywhere. I used to just keep a towel handy and catch the extra milk and then get him to latch on again.

I only feed one side at a time and just alternate at each session.

Your body will adjust accordingly and I haven't had any issues with supply (LO is nine months)

I have a bit of an over supply/over active let down. I've been told that I should try letting baby empty one breast before offering the other. What always ends up happening is he falls asleep and finishes eating before I can switch him!

When this happens, do you always pump the other breast or just wait until the next feeding to offer that side that LO didn't get to?
