DD wasn't jaundiced, but we were told once she was back to her birth weight we no longer had to wake her up to eat at night.

Keep up the every 2-3 hours until jaundice and weight gain are cleared by the doctor. This is just normal for newborns. Once you're cleared health wise you can try to go about 4 hours over night and 2 during the day or something. So maybe something like:

8 pm
12 midnight
8 am
10 am
Noon
2 pm
4 pm
6 pm
And then back to 8 pm. If there is a nap during the day that's going good I would suggest waking at the 3 hour mark just to help with overnight sleep.

I would keep up pumping frequently until at least the four week mark if not the six week mark. 6 weeks is they say when you establish your supply and you can stretch and cut then.

If he is jaundiced then you need to keep up the 2-3 hour feeds until that clears.
It sounds like he is 2 weeks old? If so, I would keep the 3 hour pumping schedule. In the first 6 weeks your supply is being established by stimulation. If you stretch it longer your body will think it doesn't need to be producing as much. If you're EP I think you need to copy baby's feeding schedule. At that age they are definitely still nursing every 2-3 hours. Once your supply is more established you can stretch them out a bit more.

Yeah, I would think as long as you are feeding at least 8-10 times a day (including overnight), you could space out feedings or at space them out at night more often. Because of the jaundice, the pediatrician may have a different view so could you call and ask before your next appt? I personally would follow what the dr says especially if the jaundice has not cleared. Feeding him more during the day should help him sleep better at night anyway so I'd stick with 2-3 hours between feeds (basing it off of when you started the last feeding) and check with the dr about spacing it more at night.

I wish I could offer advice on pumping but haven't had luck with that myself!

ETA I stopped setting an alarm when we were given the clearance that her weight gain was finally stable at 6 weeks (I know weight gain isn't your issue but just giving you my story). Even until that point there were times I forgot to set an alarm or slept through it and she was just fine (my boobs were another story! Ha!) So, either way know its temporary insanity with the overnight alarms! :)

How old is your LO? I was told to aim for 8 times a day early on. I usually did one 4 hour overnight (DH fed her once, or the nurses did in the nicu), and did a shorter one during the day to make up for it. These days (11 weeks) I can go up to 8 hours without affecting my supply, but I get VERY uncomfortable and usually leak all over the place.

Hi again eveeyone! Few questions I need answered! If you didn't read my last post I am exclusively pumping right now because of issues with breastfeeding. We tried again 3 times yesterday and it ended up with us in tears and stressed to the max so I ended up giving him a EBM bottle and he was so happy after the hours we spent struggling to breastfeed. Ok here's my first question:
1. my baby boy is slightly jaundice so we were told to feed every 2-3 hours so we set alarms and I have an app that tells me when it's feeding times. this has become exhausting... does anyone know when I don't need to use an alarm again and keep waking him to feed?

2. we have our 2 week appt on Tuesday, should I ask then about having to not set an alarm to feed every two hours on the dot? he's sleeping now and it's been about 3 hours so I am going to wake him up.

3. I am producing 6 oz of milk pumping every 3 hours. can I stretch the pumps to every 4 hours or should I wait a few more weeks for that?

any input on this would be amazing!

thank you in advanced!
