Thanks everyone.

I do think my right boob is not working up to its potential. For 2 weeks or so he's been pulling at it and getting frustrated, and I pump only like 1/3 of what I do with the left. Ugh.

My first baby was a preemie amd took forever to feed. My second was a speed nurser like yours. I had a big supply and fatty milk and she was just efficient. And chunky and covered in delicious baby rolls. When I pumped I always got 5 or 6 ounces in 15 minutes for her so I figured she was probably getting that easily in less time. It's a gift. Roll with it.

My second was like that. She never nursed for longer than 10 minutes and on one side only! The most feedings I ever got her on was 7. By 2 weeks she was down to 6 nursing sessions. But then I always had more of an over supply issue. With the twins they were preemies too and by 12 weeks (8 weeks adjusted) they were eating within 10-15 minutes every 4 hours too. So it seems normal to me.

My second was like this basically from birth. She was also an epic barfer (and later, a bottle refuser) and even with all of those factors, she’s always been around 90th percentile for height and somewhere between 50th and 70th for weight. My first was a round the clock long feedings kind of kid so I remember being worried about the short feedings at first. Later when she refused bottles I was at least glad she was efficient!

My second is quick too with only about 15 min total. I worried at first since DS1 was like 40+ min every time! But he’s been happy and never acted hungry too soon so I figure he must be getting enough.

My second was really fast too. At 2.5 now, he can still drink a whole 6-8 oz cup of milk in one breath. It's amazing. Sometimes we have hot chocolate and his will be gone before his brother is even done stirring.

Both of my kiddos have been like this - both nursing for less than ten minutes by six weeks old, even! Made me an oversupplier when I started to EP with first, and this second also means I'm getting enough plus a little extra when I pump while at work. I'd say try to not to worry, and trust that kiddo will tell you when they aren't getting enough. <3

Some babies are just really efficient. I wouldn't worry and unfortunately at 12 weeks he likely still needs to eat every 2 hours. At least it seems to mostly be during the day!

My second baby was also a very quick nurser. She still throws herself back when she's done, all dramatically. :silly: It shocked me though, initially, because my first girl would nurse for upwards of 60 minutes or more each time. My second girl even slept through the night for nearly the first four months of her life. I got mastitis the second week! She just didn't nurse much, but she was growing and thriving. I didn't pump the excess because I just wanted my body to regulate out to her level. I still pump just enough for what she needs. Good luck to you, and don't stress if there is no reason to worry, which there isn't!

He is thriving so I would not worry. Both of mine have always nursed for less than 7 min on each side, I had more of an over supply with my son but sometimes babies are very efficient nursers and your let down could be getting him what he needs. The only way to really assess would be to have a Lactation consultant weight before and after feed to see how much he is getting, probably could do that yourself too. But once again he sounds like he is doing great!

Since my son was born, he doesn't seem to be a huge eater. (My first son was preemie and nursed constantly so I might be comparing). I EBF, son is 12 weeks. He was in the 65th percentile for height and weight at 8w so he is growing but I'm just confused how he could grow when he eats so quickly! He NEVER nurses more than 10 minutes on one side. He has a very strong latch, I've had no issues boob wise. He will nurse every 2 hours. I'm trying to lengthen feedings out to 2.5/ 3 hours but that doesn't even seem to have an effect. At night he is even less interested- he nurses for 15 minutes on one side total at like 3am. When I pump (1x day but going to stop that), I get nice fatty milk.
Baby is very happy and never fussy. He has rolls. 😊 I know about foremilk and hindmilk and that's my concern. Is 8-10 minutes every 2 hours enough? Seems odd.
