Meat is still making LO gag... Occasionally she will eat chicken from soup. No other meats though. We had a play date today with a 9 month old that's still not eating finger foods at all. And I have a friend that has a 15 month old that will only eat a few finger foods. Babies are just weird, and all of them are different. She'll catch on. I've never seen anyone go to college only eating purées :)

My son was doing a lot more gagging closer to 9 months. At almost 10 mos, he now can handle larger pieces of food. Meat still kinda scares me, so I make it a little smaller. But he can eat elbow macaroni no problem and 1/3 pieces of clementine...I'm trying to think of what else...will let you know.

As with anything every baby is different. My LO loves eating and was eating puff sized chunks of meat at around 9-10 months. A friend's LO was gagging on soft cooked pasta at the same age.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. Some babies just take longer to get over their gag reflex. I knew when my LO was ready for bigger sized food when he was swallowing the food I gave him without chewing it first. Now with bigger chunks he chews until he's ready to swallow.

It does get better. Just keep offering it but don't push it. I have to offer things 3-6 times before DS will eat it. They are just getting used to all the different textures and flavors of food.

It definitely gets better. LO had a hard time with meat, too. I guess it's because it's not as mushy? Don't worry, just keep doing what you're doing!

I am not much help because my 9 month old is mostly on purees still. About the only thing of larger size that she eats is puffs or occasionally yogurt bites, which are less scary since they're melt-y. Just wanted to say your LO is not abnormal - some just seem to take longer to know what to do.

When did you start offering your lo pieces of food larger than her thumbnail?

M has had some issues with bigger pieces of food recently. By bigger, I'm talking about 1/3 of a piece of spiral pasta that has been cooked till super soft. She also had issues with ground beef. She does fine with soft things like pieces of (all steamed or cooked until soft) carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli and chicken (tiny bits), stew meat and avocado.

It gets better as they get older, right?
