I followed EASY too for daytime more or less. Night time I'd always nurse to sleep regardless of when the last feeding was. MOTN, as little activity as possible. The only activity would be burp/diaper change if needed.

@Goldengirl: I breastfed, but I would do an extra before bed feed, as part of the bedtime routine. I never did a dreamfeed with my kids though. They ate while awake. Haha. I would wait until they woke up during the night. I also followed the Eat, play, sleep order beginning around 3-4 months though. Before 3 months they were so little that I just tried to avoid feeding to sleep after 2 months, but didn’t stress about it. Because I have heard from multiple sleep consultants that 16 weeks is the earliest to sleep train so I followed that.

For motn feedings I would diaper change, feed, burp and hold upright on me for at least 10 minutes (I had to put a timer on my phone becauseI was so tired, but it was necessary for my second) and then put them back to bed for sleep. They had usually fallen back asleep by that point and I never worried about feedin to sleep during the night. Both my kids dropped their night feedings by themselves by 6 months.

Ha I totally forgot/blocked the newborn stage out too. Our second is 7 months but basically we did the eat, play, sleep during the day and then decided once it was past 8/9pm it was night and we would do final feed and into the basinette. For night feeds beyond that time it was dark, minimal interaction and back to the basinette.

We did bottles and breastfeed from night 2 so our evening and night would involve me giving his final bottle/tank up of pumped milk between 8-9pm and down for sleep. DW would pump at 9 and go to bed, leaving me with pumped milk for the next feed. I would handle things from 9-2am when I was off on leave for the first month, then 9-12 when I went back to work. He would usually wake every 2-3 hrs. I would either sit in bed or go to the couch in the dark and feed there and away/bounce back to sleep.

As he stretched his awake times and got on a more consistent schedule (which is still a work in progress) bedtime became 7 pm when we put our oldest to bed as well. He gets a big bottle and into the crib. He can now put himself to sleep more often than not.

I seriously cannot remember what we did with our first and am suddenly confused about the patterns of feeding a newborn. I remember we followed the eat, play, sleep order. But then when it's bedtime do you do an extra feed (we formula feed) before bed... Or just put down and do the feed when they wake? And since you don't want to encourage the "play" part in the middle of the night, do you attempt to just put them right back down or do they stay awake for their typical wake window still?

My first was not a good sleeper until we sleep trained him... So any tips that helped you in the early days are appreciated! Please let me know how you tackled the nights during the early weeks/months.
