If you get a fever, if stools get worse or don't improve, if the stomachaches continue, see a doctor. You can get c diff without having actual diarrhea, or at least to start... On the other hand this can be normal antibiotic stuff. Hopefully it clears up quick.

I’d probably blame the clindamycin. I’m sorry you had to take that! I feel like someone was posting recently about getting a secondary infection from mastitis antibiotics ... ugh. Hope it clears up!

@MenagerieMama: Thank you, this is really good to know! Yes, I'm allergic to penicillin, or at least got hives from it the last time I took it as a little kid...

@periwinklebee: clindamycin is a pretty tough antibiotic (do you have allergies? It’s not usually the first choice) so if this persists please let your doctor know. Clinda is a big culprit for cdiff infection.

@LBee: Thanks! I'd actually stopped the probiotic and was just focusing on the probiotic rich foods for this reason, but I'm sure if that's the case it could be a lingering effect of the probiotic as well. Or that makes sense that it could be a lingering effect of mastitis. Or maybe i'm just not recovering well from some combination of the above thanks to the sleep deprivation... ugh, I'm really a wimp about feeling lousy and am dying to feel normal...

Have you considered it might be the probiotic? They can often trigger a slight allergic reaction when you start them (scroll to bottom):

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/drugs/14598-probiotics

Also, don't discount that the lingering mastitis might be causing stomach issues. I know when I had it that my stomach was off for days.

@periwinklebee: Sorry you are feeling this way. What kind of antibiotic was it? I know some of them are stronger and can make you feel ill.

Thankfully my mastitis cleared up pretty quickly, but despite taking a probiotic and trying to eat lots of probiotic rich foods, I've been feeling pretty awful since starting the antibiotic a week ago (which I stopped taking a few days ago with the doctor's blessing since I was feeling so yuck). Between an hour and two hours after I eat, I get horrible stomachaches and feel like vomiting. It tends to come quickly and only last an hour or so before going away quickly, but i feel pretty horrible. TMI, stool is also a bit looser than normal, but not to the extreme.

I haven't taken an antibiotic in like ten years, anyone else have this experience after taking an antibiotic for mastitis (or anything else) and have it resolve on its own, or do I need to be worried about seeing a doctor?
