We are in the process of looking for a new place and I'm adamant that we stay on the T-- sometimes I just cannot remember why it is that I want to take the T at all!

@MrsLilybugg: When I worked in Harvard Sq. the 86 used to pick up right in front of Body Shop. I watched a very pregnant woman run to catch the bus. The bus driver was well aware and slammed the door shut. (At this point everyone, including me of course was screaming at the bus driver to open the door) The bus hit the light at the corner and by that time the pregnant woman was knocking on the bus door and the driver just shook her head no. Unreal. I actually called the MBTA to complain about the incident. Ugh.

@mrs. wagon: AAAA i could totally just HUG you right now!!! THANK YOU!!!! :) Those rude riders have been making me feel like a blimp!
I am just appalled that even at 37 weeks no effort was made. Sooo sweet that your DH would pick you up even if just for a few stops. The behavior is just disgusting though! We should start a PreggoMomma Protest on the MBTA.

@MrsLilybugg: um ok, I just read this thread for the first time and you are NOT alone. Whenever I rode the T or bus no one ever got up for me-- even when I was waddling and HUGE at 37 weeks!! We live in a cold, cold city :( I actually made Wagon Sr. pick me up a few times instead of having to ride the T a few stops to meet him because I didn't want to have an emotional breakdown standing there as the young, fit, healthy kids sat and didn't even look up at me as they played on their iphones and I'm literally holding my 35 lb baby bump up with my hands!! I was preggo in the dead of summer as well and I would practically strip down to nothing because I was dying. I was on the orange line most of the time. I wanted to strap 25 lb bags of rice on these kids to make them realize that no matter what they were going through, I needed that seat a lot more than them!!!

Thanks so much everyone!!!! I appreciate all of your support/ideas- really!!

@rachiecakes: aw thanks! ;) we can coordinate seat saving lol@hummusgirl: i LOOVED Gloria's line!!!
@Alivoo01: last night i thought i should even walk around with the What to Expect When You're Expecting book too. And whip that out after saying my "more room for baby" line. I decided it was too heavy lol.
@hellobeeboston: thanks hon. I can't believe even in the sweltering heat there was no compassion. I'd cry too. @JoJoGirl: LOL! Sit on the floor- awesome idea, They'd feel horrible!

I agree with everyone-- people are so rude!
I ride the Red Line and Green Line everyday, when I was 9 months pregnant in the summer I was hoping my water would break just so the able-bodied-young-people who didn't give me a seat would be horrified :)
Now I feel like I'm on patrol for anyone pregnant or who appears they need a seat for whatever reason-- sometimes I arrive at work so mad because of my T experience.
All I know is my son will be the first person to offer his seat :)

Oh yeah, I hear ya on this. NYC is bad too, I see pregnant women standing all the time. I always stand unless the train is empty because I don't want to take seats away from the elderly, pregnant or children. I'm not showing yet, but I'm dreading the day I am super uncomfortable and actually want a seat - I feel like no one will offer me one. My commute is really quick though, so at least I have that!

I'm sorry, what a bunch of jerks! I used to put my hand on my stomach long before I had a bump and wore my most "maternity" looking clothes when I'd ride the metro. But standing was really too much and I'd freak out on the inside when people would bump into me!

@MrsLilybugg: I'm so sorry, T riders can be so inconsiderate! I rode the T a lot when I was pregnant and found most people to be so rude to pregnant women. It was shocking actually. I wouldn't take it personally AT ALL.

@Foodnerd81: we used to live in Washington Square - and admittedly, that green line commute was a pain - i remember when we moved to the north shore, my commute on the commuter rail was faster than taking the T!!! BUT - if you live out far enough ( i was one stop past washington square) I always got a seat on the way in... the way home was different - and I couldn't imagine being pregnant & commuting during Sox games - it would be borderline dangerous I think! and the green line was definitely worse than the red - I would stick my huge bellies in peoples faces and they wouldn't even flinch. NOT COOL.

@hellobeeboston: UGH-- The green line is the worst. We are moving and DH keeps suggesting out towards Brookline, but I simply cannot take the greenline during Red Sox home games! He claims people will give me a seat, but I'm going to show him this!

@MrsLilybugg: umm, I rode the green and red line every weekday up until 37 weeks preggo in the summer - and with a huge belly in the sweltering heat people did not let me sit many times!! I would get SO pissed and almost start to cry....

Mbta riders can be super rude and only care about themselves. Ugh!! I am sorry u r dealing with this!! The dude with the newspaper prob put it there so no one would sit next to him, I have seen people do that.... And I have had people get up and seem pissed when I take the seat next to them for no reason... So don't take it personally! People are just d*cks sometimes!!

Aw don't take it personally, there are a-holes everywhere. As Gloria on Modern Family said, "I'm turning FOOD into a HUMAN!" You're doing something important and you deserve a seat and shouldn't be shy about it.

@Trailmix: I totally did the shaming/sighing thing too, but probably too subtly. I would see people on the subway CLOSE THEIR EYES when I got on, pretending they were napping so they wouldn't have to give me their seat! And the people who did give up their seats were women 90% of the time. I hope to raise my son so he's not one of those jerks.

@lisa1783: I am still in shock hearing about women 9 months pregnant standing on the T and suited men just sitting there. SO wrong!!!
@Foodnerd81: EXACTLY! There's no First Class roomy seats on the T. If they are so skeeved about touching elbows they need a bubble to walk around in and car service. It's true about the winter coat too - it just makes me look bulky and not preggo. can't wait to shed it!

awwww I love all of you ladies - thank you so much for making me finally feel a little better this dark morning!!! HUGS back!!

@oliviaoblivia: that's a great point - i have found myself more mindful too, since disabilities aren't always so obvious!

@T-Mom: @Cherrybee: I especially hate the people that pretend to be oblivious! I've seen them glance up and bury their faces back in their phones, magazines, etc., and when an elderly is with a cane standing! disgusting

@Anagram: right?? they make me feel like I'm some sort of disease, and I'm like a "pregnant size 14", not a junkie shooting up on the train!
@maybebaby: thanks for the reassurance on my retort! I'll be using that more firmly and fiercely!! I like your idea of patting my tummy and sighing too!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: "more room for me and the baby" will be my motto if these jerks behave like this again!

@travelgirl1: thanks so much. I was feeling a little guilty for imposing on these jerks but it's true- i shouldn't have to stand while pregnant if there's a seat available!

Ugh, I'm so sorry! I live in NYC and since it's winter, my coat hides my bump but I have no shame about unzipping my coat, making it obvious and then GLARING around at everyone until someone offers me a seat. You can also put your hand on your stomach, that's a pretty good way to signal to people that you're expecting. And you deserve a seat, dangit!!

I'm so sorry! The T is just the worst, period. And for these people to be so rude, whether they know you are pregnant or not is just so unacceptable! And oh my god, people do so many worse things than sit down in a seat that's crowded-- they are smaller than the average person, if you choose to sit, you know the person sitting next to you will probably be touching you. Deal with it or don't take public transportation at rush hour! I don't understand why either people would feel the need to react!

I am hoping it will get better with people being more polite about offering seats once we shed our winter coats-- I'm 15 weeks and you can see a bump a little bit now in a tight shirt, but in a winter coat it's just more bulk. Try not to let rude people bother you-- even though I know that's so hard to do.
