I'll be in the same boat after DS #2 makes his appearance this summer. We will have to be extra careful this time around because we want longer spacing in between #2 and #3.

Meh. Ive had my Mirena for almost 2 years and I love it. Zero issues, zero weight gain, zero periods.

I hope you find something that works for you.

We use NFP. I've never been comfortable with hormonal birth control and its various health risks, so it was worth it to me to invest the time and effort into learning to use NFP effectively.

We do a combo of NFP and condoms. It's been fine but we definitely get a little less careful the older lo gets because it wouldn't be terrible if we got pregnant again, even if the timing isn't perfect.

We're not happy with any birth control options that require pills, shots, or insertions, so we're just avoiding it until we know we're completely done. I think after then we'll go for condoms or maybe a sponge/diaphragm. Not looking forward to that.

I know you're against an IUD, but there are other low hormone options out there that you can use while BFing. I have endometriosis, so have to be on bc at all times. I will get an IUD after #2, but other options my doctor recommended were Depo and Nexpkanon (the arm stick thing).

@DillonLion: I also just got the Paraguard, it has been almost one month and the jury is still out for me too.

Insertion was totally painless. However, I did bleed for about a week after insertion (I was 9 weeks PP when I got it) and the first three days were really heavy. Since then I've had occasional spotting. I've read that it can take 3-6 months for that to stop, and of course the copper iud is known for heavier periods, so we'll see. I just can't go back on hormonal BC, I really hated what it did to me, and we are definitely done having babies.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: have you heard of female condoms? A friend was just asking me about them. Her midwife suggested t to her. She said you can buy them online from Amazon. Apparently you put them inside you and they can be in ahead of time so no stopping to put on a condom. I am not sure if I brave enough to try them but her midwifed paper on them says they are pretty effective!

I feel ya. I'm on the mini pill right now and I have trouble taking it at the same time everyday, I still get frequent (every 18-20 days) heavy periods and I POAS every other month. I'm just sticking with it because I'm still nursing and my periods would be even more erratic without it.

I felt the exact same way! The pill I was originally in gave me migraines so I stopped. We thought about nfp because I don't love the idea of messing with my body's chemistry for so long. But I didn't have a period and was breastfeeding. DH doesn't like condoms and I felt like since we were going to start trying in a year or so a iud wasn't a good option. Plus I just didn't like the sound of them.

So we used pull and pray and got pregnant nine months later. A word to the wise - just do condoms until you can find a pill you are happy with. Then go from there.

I had the depo shot which is TERRIBLE for anyone looking to conceive anytime soon because it doesn't wear off right away.
But since you are not, i'd suggest it.
It gives no periods or very short.light ones, and it lasts 3 months and it does NOT hurt your supply. Both my aunt and I had babies within weeks of each other and both got on the shot right away. I did have supply issues, but they didn't come until 12 weeks after having my shot. My aunt never had supply issues so we know it was not from the BC.

We're strictly using condoms, for now. Not a big fan, but we are not ready for #2. We may go back to NFP once DD is one, but likely won't TTC until early spring of next year. HBC is out of the question for me, as I have abnormally high estrogen, and risk blood clotting.

We use condoms but we don't actually mind them. Less mess, for sure :) We had been using them for 3 years, between when I stopped HBC and when we decided to TTC, though, so it was an easy call to just go back to that. Not that we've actually needed to use many in the past few weeks...someday maybe that will change...

What if you combined NFP with the sponge? The sponge is only 75-80% effective when used alone for women that have given birth but if you combine with NFP or withdrawal the success rate should go up. I've had issues with all hormonal birth control that I've tried, even low dose ones like nuva ring. I used to use the sponge and I liked it, but it does get expensive.

I'm with you. We're pretty sure we're one and done, but aren't ready to commit to any permanent procedures. I don't want an IUD, because I'm too afraid of uterine perforation, and because a very traumatic Foley catheter insertion has left me never wanting anyone to touch my cervix ever, ever again. I don't want anything hormonal, and while I think I'm pretty comfortable with charting since I have quite regular cycles, I don't think I'm comfortable enough to use it alone without a barrier method too. So, condoms it is. Ugh.
