@Emilia80: wow, yeah, I would definitely just want to get all the testing done first before skipping over to IVF! Sounds like your instincts are right to me... Or at least I'd have the same reaction!

@travellingbee: I don't mind having multiples. I'm worried more about it affecting my fertility and lining like u say. I need a break from doctors. I think I'm gonna stick to my plan of ttc for 6montha without any doctors involved and then worry about it then. As for clomid if I do take it I'll stick to 50mg. I won't do the 100!

@Emilia80: honestly, if it was me, I'd spend this cycle finding a new doctor and skip the clomid. But that's just me. Clomid raises your chance of multiples (which is dangerous) and can thin your lining (making it harder to actually get pregnant). But that's a decision you have to make with your doctor.

@travellingbee: I know, that's what he keeps telling me. I guess my clock is ticking inside my head and it's making me stressed too bc ideally I would love 3 kids. I know I need to turn it down a notch and try just have fun but it's hard to do Ughhh. I just have to decide by tomorrow whether to take clomid again this cycle one last time. Thanks though appreciate your advice, it's been most helpful. Thank u kindly.

@Emilia80: that depends on your partner's sperm count. For most men ED is fine but if his count was low you'd do EOD. I think y'all should, at this point, just relax and have fun. Most couples with perfect tubes take 6 months to get a bfp. Even if everything is right, you only have about a 20% chance each cycle.

Definitely a little early to be going down the IVF route, in my opinion. I agree to give it a few more months (I think 6 total is fair) and then speak to an RE, just for their opinion. Not even necessarily to discuss IVF off the bat. It seems really strange for an OBGYN to be recommending so many interventions on their own, especially so early.

Wanted to add another positive story for you - just over easter I was talking to my cousin-in-law and she mentioned that she only has one ovary, which I never knew - and she conceived her 8 year old daughter very quickly. And she was 37! So it's not impossible!

@Emilia80: sorry about your AF. I'm no doctor but this is what I know. Low AMH doesn't cause you to not get pregnant. It just means your reserve of eggs is lower. If you're ovulating, the AMH number isn't affecting your chances. Also LOW AMH is below 2. And below 1 is usually considered Diminished Ovarian Reserve. Mine is 0.76 and I've gotten pregnant without assistance. Having one tube also shouldn't affect your chances of getting pregnant. It just might take longer since you most people alternate which ovary they ovulate from, and you'd clearly have to ovulate from the one with a tube to get pregnant. I just don't get what the clomid is supposed to do in your situation or why your doctor thought you needed a "boost" if you've hardly started trying!

@Emilia80: I'm confused. I don't understand why you are already trying clomid when you've only been TTC for a couple of months. Why did your doctor think that was necessary? Why not give your body time to do it on its own?
ETA: your age of 34 is NOT old, and is not a reason to do IVF. I got pregnant easily with DS at 34.

@Emilia80: I think I remember your story from another thread. I don't see any reason at this point to move straight to IVF just because you have one blocked tube. I agree with the other pp's, you could ask for a referral and get started with an RE since they will want a bunch of tests done. The RE will have good suggestions for getting you pregnant with only one tube without IVF being the first step. Also if you are going to be taking Clomid monitoring will be important so that you can see how many eggs you are producing and which side they are on.

@2littlepumpkins: there is absolutely nothing else that is medically wrong. I've had all my tests and everything was normal, he only found a blocked tube during a laparoscopy, other than that no endo, no cysts, no pcos.
I had fsh test which was 8 but I just came off bcp so not sure if that affected my results. I also had my amh tested which again I was on bcp (6 years) at the time while I was tested and that came back at 6.8pmol/l my gp said that bc I was on bcp it would suppress it. So to wait 6 months and re test so next month I will retest. Whereas ob reckons bcp does not affect amh results.
I also had my afc tested ( again whilst on bcp) it was 13.

Afc and amh were tested to make me see where I was at and whether I should start ttc. So that's what prompted me into starting ttc bc of my low amh. I never would've tested these had I known I should've been off bcp first before testing but in a way Im glad I know. But I can't hold too much stock into these tests bc I was on bcp.

We have not tested my partner so that's the only thing. And like I keep telling him it's only been 2 months give us some time and if nothing after 6months he will test himself. As u know guys aren't happy about having their swimmers tested. So I don't want to push him yet unless there's really a need for it. I think 2 months is definitely early. I just hate the pressure. My gp thinks I do not need to see an RE. But I will wait a bit more and if nothing by 6months I will get that re referral.

It does seem early at 2 months of trying! I think I'd maybe just look into new OBs. The OB's attitudes can also affect your pregnancy and the tests you get and how you interpret them, etc. It would make me nervous to stay with him when he seems to have such an extreme view (unless there's something medically you aren't mentioning) and because he isn't listening to you when you say you're not ready yet. On the other hand other OBs may want you to wait a whole year so be prepared for that too. I don't see why you wouldn't get pregnant just due to having one tube either. I'm sorry you're going through this, ttc can be so stressful!

It is totally possibly to get pregnant at 34 with 1 tube, I think he is totally jumping the gun here with only 2 months of TTC! I personally would see and RE over him, especially considering your circumstances. I just don't trust OB's with fertility treatment and monitoring. Good luck!

it seems really early in the game to be talking IVF, even with one tube unless there are other things going on that you've already had established. above all, you want to be comfortable with your doctor, so i would look at getting a second opinion.

I second getting another doctor. The truth is you pay them and you shouldn't feel stressed or receive advice that makes you feel uncomfortable. Fertility/Infertility is a long road for some and you should feel extremely comfortable with your provider.

You need to go to an RE who knows what they are doing. There are many options before IVF. You also shouldn't jump up to 100mg of Clomid just because you didn't get pregnant. You need to be monitored to know how your ovaries responded. I got 4 follicles on 50mg but didn't get pregnant. If they bumped me up to 100 without monitoring I could be an octomom or have OHSS. Ask for a referral or just switch.
