@catchafallingstar, I just finished taking my first round of femara (letrozole) and the only side effects I've had are muscle aches and feeling dehydrated.

@CatchAFallingStar: I got pregnant on my first cycle of Femara after 2 unsuccessful Clomid cycles (didn't ovulate with two different doses). I didn't have any major side effects with either med, but Femara was what worked for me so I'm definitely a fan :) I was monitored on both Clomid and Femara because I was being seen by REI.

(my first post on hellobee...woohoo!)

@CatchAFallingStar: but that was with clomid right? They didn't test before giving you clomid, right?

@CatchAFallingStar: That's good news--wait, did you change your username recently? Has your husband been tested as well?

My insurance doesn't cover IF, so I was surprised at how many visits I actually did get covered. Monitoring for me included a blood test the first time or so, then just an ultrasound. Maybe $400 each time? I'm not sure and would need to double check....so not cheap, but I feel really important.

@Happygal: Yes, my progesterone was 14.21. So, I did ovulate. I know. I wish I knew how the Clomid affected me. Is monitoring really expensive?

@CatchAFallingStar: I'm sorry for not remembering more of your back story. Have you gone through all the testing? I'm assuming you can say that you know you're ovulating b/c you've done a progesterone test--is that correct?

It's sort of hard to know how to proceed without having more details about how your body responded to Clomid.

@CatchAFallingStar: is your lining showing thinning on Clomid? How many follicles did you have on Clomid?

I switched to Femara b/c Clomid thinned out my lining. I liked it just fine, but it didn't do the trick for me.

@CatchAFallingStar: I did one cycle with Femara after 5 cycles with Clomid (3 at 50mg and 2 at 100mg). I actually really liked it - I had zero side effects, and I ovulated earlier than usual (CD 13, as opposed to CD 15 on Clomid and CD 19ish unmedicated). I would have continued with Femara if we were continuing with IUIs, but I moved on to IVF.

I did two cycles with Femara and did not ovulate either time  I did another cycle with Clomid after that and ovulated but it was missed. The nice thing with Femara was that it allowed my lining to thicken up a bit so if the RE hadn't missed my ovulation we might have had a chance.

@pui: I think the doctor is concerned about the thinning of the uterine lining and reduction of cervical mucus with Clomid.

@CatchAFallingStar: You could definitely try Femara, but if your side effects on Clomid were reasonable I would personally start with higher doses of that.

Anyone have any experience with Femara? My new OBGYN says it might be worth a try. I've already done 3 rounds of Clomid with no success. I ovulate regularly on my own.

Thank you!
