I am doing a timed cycle, and currently in my TWW. I did 7.5 mg of Femara CD 3-7, Gonal-F CD 9, then ultrasound to check out ovaries on CD 12 which is when she told me to trigger with my 250 Ovidrel.

To answer you question: She then said to BD once a day for the next 3-4 days. I'd say if you an afford it, go ahead with the trigger!

@bluestriped bee: Thanks hon! I'm CD13 and still no positives, but that's normal for me... if I ovulate, it's usually late. Will just hang in there a few more days & see what happens. Thank you!

@jaguar: I've only done Femera and trigger with my IUIs and you are correct. Take the prescribed dose (I was at 2.5 mg for 5 days) then use OPKs starting on day 10-11 until positive. For my IUIs , I always got ultrasounds and usually triggered before I seeing the positive on my OPKs.

@ShootingStar: Yeah, my monitored FET's are always blood monitored (though I did OPK's at home too, just to see what would happen!) :D

@jaguar: I don't know if I ever surged early because I never used OPKs for monitored cycles. I doubt it though. I think it would've shown up on the bloodwork. And they could always tell from my levels that I hadn't peaked yet.

@ShootingStar: Nah, we're going to lay off the injectibles this time around (after all the crazy IVF drugs last cycle, I was hoping this would be a little calmer) so hopeful the Femara will do the trick. Did you ever surge before a trigger? x

Sad that I'm not even trying to get pregnant out of this anymore.... it's just a matter of getting into a TWW & moving along. ;)

@jaguar: Ok in that case I'd definitely use the trigger! There's a good shot the femara will be sufficient and then you can get perfect timing with the trigger. Any chance they'll give you some injectables too? The cycle I got pregnant I took 75iu of gonal f for a couple days right before ovulation to increase egg quality/size. That on top of the femara was successful.

@ShootingStar: Yep, that's the dose I'm on.. same as always! (I'll be on this for nxet cycle's FET too.) Stubborn ovaries, unite!

Ahh, ok. What dose are they giving you if femara? I'd ask for the max, 7.5 mg. I assume you've got super stubborn ovaries, like I do, and that's the dose I needed. I'm not sure if there's even much of a downside to upping the femara dose like there is for clomid.

@ShootingStar: It's a bit of an off the books cycle. ;) My FS is awesome and knows we were struggling with the wait.... and we ended up using a Lucrin trigger for IVF last cycle, so have the Ovidrel leftover. Since it's technically a 'rest' cycle... there won't be any ultrasounds - we'll just base it off our previous cycle history.

I think I'd like the idea of being SURE I ovulated (using the trigger at an appropriate time) and just be sure we gave this "rest cycle" a shot... and one step closer to our next FET!

Are you not getting monitored? I did Femara plus trigger and always had monitoring. I liked being sure that I was going ovulate. Since, as I'm sure you know, you can get a positive opk and not actually ovulate. Or you can wait and wait for the surge.

Okay ladies, I need to pick your brains.

This is a rest cycle for me - the cycle after IVF retrieval, and the cycle before (hopefully) a FET. My FS gave me the go ahead to use Femara to induce ovulation and have a regular cycle -- because if I left it au naturale, I'd go on for months on end with no period. ;)

We also discussed the possibility of using a trigger shot to induce ovulation. I wanted to wait and see what would happen, whether the Femara would work on its own -- but we agreed that if I didn't surge by day 16-18, I'd go ahead and take the trigger. (Those are the days I've had prime follicles from Femara in previous cycles.)

I guess I'm just looking for some advice -- I've used Ovidrel triggers loads before, but only for artificial IVF egg retrievals, not for regular, try-yourself, cycles.

I'll keep OPK-ing beforehand & make sure I get the go ahead from FS before triggering... but what happens with these cycles? If I get a positive OPK, I don't need to bother with the trigger, right? And if I do go ahead and trigger, is it the same time-frame of 36 hours before ovulation, like with full IUI/IVF cycles?

Thanks for the advice! xx
