Yes, it really made him mad. That's why we went with CIO extinction.

When we first did CIO we checked on her after set times, but there did come a point where it didn't help our progress. I just go by her crying. If she's really amped up and there are absolutely no lulls (even if super brief) or pauses in her crying, I'll go in. But if it goes up and down in intensity then she's better off to just work it out. Like a pp said, at that point it would usually take 20 mins max.

My LO gets hysterical with checks. We were going in every 5-15 minutes depending on her cries. We figured out that at 20 minutes she usually soothed herself. It seemed like 20 hours, but she was less upset than if we had gone in a million times.

Oh he can't stand it. He said it was super heartbreaking. She was staring and reaching out for him. But then she started sleeping sitting up which he thought was really funny. But overall he said awful lol

@luckypenny: so he just sat in there with her crying? That must have been hard. Was she staring at him to save her?

For us DD got SOOOO upset if we went in and out. We decided DH would sit in the glider / not look at her until she fell asleep. We liked the "we're here for you and you're not alone but we want you to do this for yourself" idea

If she did, did you continue with the method?

Are some babies actually soothed by mom/dad going in the room and talking but not picking them up? It just seems to make my baby hysterical.
