@MrsSRS: thanks! I am hopeful that he will stop waking for the checks soon since he's not getting much out of them ;)

Night 7 he slept until 430 but I didn't feed him until close to 5 and he slept til 630.

Night 8 one Ferber check at 1 am....slept til 630.

One thing I'm noticing is if I intervene quickly and do a quick check he goes back to sleep more quickly than if he cries longer.

Sounds like you're doing a great job. Those checks should drop off in a week or two. Then if you want you can feed less and less at the 5am wake to try to go until morning if you like.

@MamaG: I think that if it had been at 2 am I would have left him but 445 was so dangerously close to the start of the day I was starting to get nervous lol!

@winniebee: I'm not an expert, but I tend to agree with @KayKay: the only thing I would have done differently is night 5. I'm sure you just wanted to get him back to sleep, but I wonder if he would have got there on his own. K will wake during the night for 30+ minutes, and as long as she's content, we let her be to work it out.

@kiddosc: hm interesting! See before this latest regression he would typically sleep 7-3 or sometimes 4....so that's why I decided to stop feeding at midnight. And since he proved he could go until 6/7 am....i figured I should probably just try and not feed before 5 am!

@winnibee: the only change i would've made was on night 5, i probably wouldn't have gone to him if he was just babbling/awake.

It's been awhile since I read the book, but I think that the recommendation is to gradually push the time back or to gradually reduce the amount fed. Your summary makes it sound like his most common wake-up time is around midnight, so a jump from midnight to 5 am might just be a little too extreme?

Then again, if it's going mostly good, then try to stick it out a bit longer. Ugh, there really just isn't a manual to follow. We used Ferber to reduce the number of night wakings and it probably took a week to 10 days to see more consistent results.

@winniebee: Honestly your summary sounds like it's going pretty well! My daughter is 2 and still wakes in the night sometimes. The Ferber method was SUCH a success for us and took her from multiple wakeups every night to the occasional wakeup once in a while, but it didn't turn her into a miracle baby who never woke up anymore.

I think not feeding until 5 is a good plan. Slowly, you can bump that out a little later.

@Mrs. Bee: Thanks! That is sort of my rule....no feeding until it's 5....I broke the rule on the 4th night. And then one night it was 445...but I figured close enough.

for some reason 4th nights always seem to be bad.

i would try not to feed unless it was after 5am. stick with it a little bit longer and he may just drop the wakeup.

R is 9.5 months. Last week, we started sleep training to eliminate night feedings (which went from 1 to multiple a month ago). It's gone pretty well so far...he's had 6 nights and I've only had to feed him once over night. I'm doing Ferber style checks - give him paci and lovey and lay him back down (he's usually standing in crib crying). He is still waking up once though...I'm not feeding and he typically will settle after one check.

My question is when can I expect him to stop waking for that check?

He goes to bed at 7/730. He is fed before bed with the lights on. If he is awake when he is done eating, he goes in the crib regardless...he is often very sleepy, sometimes awake, sometimes more than sleepy. He can put himself to sleep within a few mins.

The first two nights he woke at 12...after 1 or 2 checks went back to sleep and slept until 6/7.

The third night he cried for just a minute at 3 am and slept until 630.

The fourth night was bad....woke at 12 and after multiple checks and an hour + of off and on crying I fed him.

The fifth night he slept until 415...after 30 mins of talking to himself I finally fed him at 445.

The sixth night he woke at 2 but went back to sleep with a check...woke at 530 and I fed him...slept til 7.

Any suggestions or insight?
