I would be consistent, with whatever you decide! Stick with it, and hopefully the rough nights become few and far between.

As for the early mornings, I have found no rhyme nor reason. Get some coffee and a favorite morning show to put on to keep yourself awake while he plays, and hope it passes soon! Good luck!

totally get that kids wake up early. i just don't understand when/how the change occurred, since he was sleeping until a reasonable hour up until recently. and to your point: 3-4 checks is like 45 min for us. we shortened the minutes a little bit because he was really screaming. is this part of the problem? also, because he sometimes goes to sleep quickly, i'm not sure if we should be raising the minute amount since its so inconsistent. we do the checks at the bare minimum each time...

We did Ferber by.the.book. And it worked for DD at 5 months when we did it.

When you say sometimes it take 3-4 checks to fall asleep, I assume you are at the maximum check time, so it's taking over an hour of crying for your son to fall asleep?

For waking early, I would say it's normal for his age. My daughter slept until 9am until about 6 months, then woke at 5:30-6 until 12 months. Now she wakes at about 7:30. It's just developmental. It sounds like he eats plenty! It sucks, but kids get up early!

this question is twofold:
we've been doing ferber with my son (who is almost 7 months) for about 4 weeks now, and it hasn't really "stuck" with him yet. some nights he'll go to sleep within 5 minutes, and some nights he'll need to have 3-4 checks. what gives there?

that being said he does stay asleep relatively well - up until recently. he used to sleep until 630ish pre ferber and early on into ferberizing, but now he's waking up consistently between 430 and 530.

addnt'l info: he takes 2-3 naps per day (anywhere from half hour to 1.5hr each), has started solids, and still does 30ish oz of formula per day.
is he waking up so early bc he's hungry? he stopped needing a nighttime/early feeding around 4 months, so why or how could he be needing one now - especially starting solids? if not, what can i do to break the cycle?
