We decided to give her a chance to fall asleep on her own but set a pretty short limit on it. We'd let her cry 5 min, check, and if she cried another 10 I would rock her and/or cosleep (and/or do anything else I had to do to make sure baby girl gets her rest tonight). </p> <p>Set her down and she rolled around pretty contentedly without crying for 30 min and fell asleep. No crying. Did her usual wake-up at 30 min after falling asleep and rolled over and went back to sleep. </p> <p>To say I'm surprised is an understatement, but so grateful! (esp after our horrible no good very bad night last night). Hope she feels better soon. If I were you, I would just gauge it. Try putting her down and see what happens. I personally would not feel comfortable letting her cry that long being sick, but that's just me! For us, when we did sleep training, she would get kinda snotty from the crying and if she's already congested...but I would try to put her down and see what happens. If you really think she can't breath and needs you to help suction or just feel like she needs the comfort, then you can try again when it passes. But you'll have to start over from scratch. A lot of the books on sleep training basically stay that there is always going to be something -- a cold, shots, teeth, family in town, etc-- and you just have to suck it up and get through it. Nights 1-3 went amazingly well. Last night sucked. Lo cried on and off for 4 hrs before falling asleep for 3 and then cried on and off 2 more hrs before I brought her to bed. </p> <p>Turns out she has a cold. :( she didn't yesterday but today she can hardly breathe through her nose. So I'm guessing she was starting to feel sick last night. </p> <p>So you don't sleep train sick babies right? I assume at this point we just do anything to get her to sleep and start over when she is well?? </p>
