@Ms. RV: the more she wiggles the harder it was, but she got everything she needed in about 20 minutes! She flipped around quite a bit in that time.

Echo = ECG (which I'm pretty sure is called an EKG in the U.S.)

We had one done around 28-ish weeks for the same reason as Mrs Champagne, diagnosed with a 2 vessel cord at the anatomy scan and it was a precautionary measure. From what I recall, it was just a more specialized ultrasound that was performed by a cardiologist and focused on the chambers of the heart. My daughter was moving around like crazy, same as she did for all her ultrasounds and the doctor had no problem seeing everything she needed. Best of luck with yours!

I had a fetal echocardiogram done with my first pregnancy and will likely have one done with this second pregnancy. It was just like a regular ultrasound but very very detailed and done by an actual doctor. The technology was really advanced and I loved having it done (aside from the anxiety of finding out whether or not my girl had a heart problem.) I'm hoping I can have one done with this pregnancy because I loved seeing so much detail of the baby. Good luck with yours! I hope the results are all good!

Well I re-read my doctor's notes and she is calling for an echo, not an EKG. I was hoping to avoid MFM this time but I guess no such luck. I just produce needy babies :silly:

@Mrs. Champagne: Did the baby's position matter at all? Or did the echo pretty much see through everything?

Yes I did! At the anatomy scan they found a two vessel cord so they did one as a precaution. It was just like an ultrasound basically. But recording the sounds of blood flow etc.

@Ms. RV: oh yeah now i remember! They measured the different chambers and valves and everything too. I’m sure they just put the findings in a report for the specialist to read. Those MFM 3D ultrasounds are a little bit overkill. They found that DS had choroid plexus cysts and something called mega cisterns magna, which caused a lot of worry over NOTHING. Try not to worry

@macintosh: You made me feel so much better!! I was getting EKG and echocardiagram mixed up. Leads for an EKG is a lot less scary than having bloodflow imaged.

I had one for my IVF pregnancy, I think it may had been the same MFM visit as the anatomy scan. I think they just put a bunch of electrodes on me and monitored it. I didn’t get results right away, they called me about it later. They also found something else at that visit that turned out to be nothing, so it kind of overshadowed the EKG for me.

Anyone ever have a fetal EKG? I found out today I will probably need one with this pregnancy since DD has a congenital heart defect that was not detected on her anatomy scan.

What was it like? Did you have it done before or after your anatomy scan? Or during?
