@pachamama: Such a pain. He seems fine this morning, so I’m going to end him in. Luckily today I only work a half day, so I’ll get him early. I’m glad my work is mostly understanding. In just under three months I’ve had 32 sick hours!

@ALV91711: I was gonna say yesterday, fevers are so weird in that they come and go for what seems like days! The same thing happens with my boys. Such a pain to plan for daycare!

Thanks everyone.

I sent him to daycare today as he seemed fine in the morning. By after his nap they called as the fever was back. Because of this I called his Ped’s office and talked to them and they had me bring him in. He gave him a good exam and said viral infection. Lots of fluids and naps if possible. It’s just got to run it’s course.

I had to go back to the daycare to get my older DS and talked to the babies teacher. As long as he doesn’t have a fever he can go back in the morning.

@Mama Bird: I gave him pouches for dinner and he ate quite a bit and then was pretty happy.

@hellobeeboston: DS1 got lots of ear infections and this is what I was worried about, but luckily his ears are clear.

I would also call and see what they say... since the cold is there too i'd be worried there might be an ear infection or something that could be related...

My DD had a virus once where she was fever-free in the morning and around 101/102 by late afternoon. I called the nurse line a couple days into it and she said as long as DD was drinking enough fluids and wasn’t acting lethargic/sick, just to keep an eye on it. It ran its course in about a week.

I’d call the nurses line and ask their opinion! They’ll probably run tests to look for other infections (did this with dd at about the same age and they ran extended tests, all ended up negative).

So you went to doctor Monday and now it's Wednesday... I think usually ours tell us to come back if fever is still not broken after 3 days? I can't remember exactly. I might wait a day. But I know these calls are so tough! Sometimes I jump the gun to go b/c I was worried it's an infection that could be treated with meds.

Given that he's acting OK, I'd just keep an eye on it, but not go back yet. My almost one-year-old has similar symptoms since Sunday night. Fever only at night, cough, congestion. She's also barely eating and drinking, so I took her to the doctor yesterday to rule out bronchitis or something. No, apparently it's just a cold-like virus. Apparently the not eating is not 100% connected - she's cutting four or five teeth. I've gone back to feeding her purees and she got a little happier once I got her to eat something.

@bhbee: with DS1 any time he had a fever he had an ear infection. I’ve never had one of them with a fever for so many days.

He woke up this morning with no fever and acting himself. Ate breakfast and playing away. Still stuffy but I don’t expect that to go away soon. We are going to try and go about our regular day and if for some reason the fever comes back I’ll take him to the doctor.

@pachamama: I only like medicine if necessary. Fever is when I definitely use it. I’m just glad he seems better.

Our pediatrician says he worries if a kid has a fever more than 6 days at 104 and to only look at the symptoms (if they're acting very ill). But we are very hands off in terms of meds and antibiotics and my 4 y/o and 1 y/o havr only been on them once total (prob bc we rarely go to the doctor 😬)
Hope he's feeling better.

Good luck. I have had this go many ways but they should definitely check it out. Once it was a second virus, often it’s an ear infection and once for my oldest after flu she couldn’t get better fever wise so after several trips they finally gave antibiotics and that fixed it (but she never had an infection they could pinpoint just had to assume from the fevers). She missed a whole week of school getting that figured out, I hope you get it resolved ASAP!

@MACSUNSHINE: Thanks! Hopefully I can get him in to see his doctor tomorrow and not just the walk in clinic.

Back to doctor. A fever for this long should not be ignored and I would force that with the doctor if they brush it off. 5 days is the rule of thumb that we follow. Good luck

DS is 14.5 months. Saturday night he woke up with a fever. He has been up and down. He’s also had a cold since the previous weekend. Monday morning he seemed good and I sent him to daycare. He woke up from his nap super warm and they sent him home.

DH got him and I took him to the walk in clinic when I got home. No infection and everything sounded good, she said to keep medicating and try and keep him cooled down.

I kept him home Tuesday. By the afternoon he was seeming to be on the mend. Playing, eating and not so warm. He woke up just now and is burning up.

Would you go back to the doctor in the morning? Or any other ideas of what to do?
