I don't check it overnight. She'd wake up if it's getting bad/she can't sleep, which has been true.

I would only check overnight if he woke up really upset or feeling hot/sweaty. If he was sleeping and seemed fine I wouldn't. Knock on wood it's never happened and he's 17 months.

Also, their temperatures do tend to rise at night for whatever reason. My ped told me not to worry about it.

And I know it varies from parent to parent but I tend to give Motrin at bedtime if he has a fever. So that might be why I never have to check it overnight? I just figure that if he's sick he needs rest and if giving Motrin will help him rest it's worth a shot.

Fever seems to be controlled with Advil and Tylenol but he's been digging his thumbs into his ears so I have an appointment at a far off facility this afternoon to check for an ear infection (our local offices are closed for the holiday). Le sigh.

@gingerbebe: I'm sorry. :( My dd goes back to school tomorrow after being out about two weeks and I still don't think she's 100% and neither is the rest of the family, so I'm nervous!

@travellingbee: @MamaG: glad to hear the nights went ok.

@MamaG: I remember :(
I just think these gals have cold that are hanging on!
G is now on amoxicillin for a sinus infection, due to fever and bad breath! Pedi said it maybe one! Since she seems to be ok one day and sick again the next!

It seems to be helping and her cough sounds so much better as if loose and coughing it all. Up!

It is so awful when they are sick!
She is cutting 4 new teeth too 4!!!!! And had a rash from meds!!! She(WE) need a break!!! As do you girls too!

@FaithFertility: HFM was my very first thought this morning too. She's had it already at 9 months (bad!). She was standing in her crib so I immediately grabbed her hands to inspect.

@MamaG: Hope she is feeling better! Funny about the spots! I panicked the other day thinking HFM because G woke with red spots around mouth, but I think it was sleeping in drool too, as they went away in an hr or so!
Her nose is stuffy and with heater on I think she sleeps with mouth opened more and drools

She woke just as I was leaving this morning and felt only a little warm and not feverish. She has three red spots on her face and her bed was wet with drool. I hope the spots are just irritation and nothing more.

@MamaG: glad to hear she did ok. My LO has the flu and had a fever yesterday of 103.4. He slept through the night though (and DH felt his back at 5am when our baby woke and said he didn't feel hot. So yay!)

Sigh my 17 month old woke up at 11pm with a fever! Ran to get him Advil and ice water and prepped another sippy and syringe for later in the night. I'm sooo sick of daycare plagues. He's been sick since mid December!!

I'd sort of be like @gingerbebe: ...expecting a wakeup, but not initiating it. I have checked if LO seemed particularly bad or last week when she had pneumonia and was spiking every evening for almost two weeks. Her doctor was asking how high it would get. But in this case I'd probably check right before bed and then anticipate a wakeup. Hope your LO feels better asap!

My son will wake up pissed if his fever gets worse and/or he feels like garbage. I would make up a syringe of Advil and have a sippy of water ready on the nightstand and get ready for a MOTN waking.

Personally I wouldn't check overnight, she always wakes me just fine in her own when she feels bad. And I wouldn't give meds just for a 101.7, but I do give them if she has a fever and seems uncomfortable. So I guess if she wakes up overnight, I'd give her ibuprofen. Poor baby.

Lo2 is almost 15 months. She's had a cold on and off for about 5 weeks. It got worse again Friday night with lots of coughing overnight. This evening she threw up right before dinner. But was okay immediately following. She had saltines and applesauce for dinner. I'm a BRAT diet follower. Her temp was 99.9. We did bath before bed and her temp went down. Just checked her since was restless and temp is 100.7. She's been asleep for about 2.5 hours.

So the real question. How frequently do you check temperature overnight? I haven't given meds at this point.
