I liked traveling with premade cartons, though I've also traveled with powder and bottles-pre-filled-with-water, and thought it has required an extra scan, I've never had trouble getting through security.
I'd maybe bring two bottles, and use the method @yoursilverlining recommended for washing them out- add some soap (maybe bring a travel-size container of dish soap with you), hot water, and shake...
Not sure how old your LO is, but by the time we started supplementing with formula (around 6-7 months) I didn't really worry about the water we used, so we would also sometimes just travel with bottles filled with powder, and then we'd just buy bottled water inside the terminal to add to it.

@pastemoo: Haha, security here is, if anything, even stricter.

I think that according the security rules in the US--it will be easier to get premade formula through otherwise you have to buy expensive water on the inside of security.
That may only be for the return trip--not sure about security/FAA in Heathrow.

Good luck!

@yoursilverlining: The flights aren't too bad. The flight from Heathrow leaves at noon, so we'll leave the house right around when she would wake up in the morning anyway. We'll land when it's past her bedtime. We arrive in StL at 9pm, which is 3am our time. It's a 6 hour time difference, so the last part of the flights will probably be rough no matter what. I'm hoping she sleeps a lot, which she probably will.

Hmmm, I think I would take 2 extra. Once you open a container, if you are not going to use it all within 2 hours, maybe you could ask the stewardess if they would mind popping the leftover into the airplane fridge so that you can feed it to LO later on in the flight.

Does your LO calm with a bottle, even if she isn't really hungry? If so, maybe bring a 3rd in case she needs to sort of “comfort nurse” during the flight?

How do the flight times match up with her established feeding schedule (if she has one)?

“They” say its helpful to babies to suck on a bottle/nipple during takeoff/landing, so you’ll want a little extra for that purpose.

I would probably bring 2 extra premade liquids and then 1-2 single-serving powders for emergencies; but I tend to overestimate how much LO will eat! :)

I think using premade formula is the easiest way to go; its what we use for traveling now (and what we will use on a plane). You just open it and pour into the bottle and you’re good to go. The same discarding time frames/rules apply as to powdered formula.

I would take a couple of bottles and probably just rinse them in really hot water at the airport between feedings (I’d probably put a little soap in them, shake them up to get the soap all over the inside, and then rinse well in hot water).

The premade liquid will be heavier in your carry-on than powder, but I like them because they are so easy to use. If you do go the powder route, I would definitely either get the single-serve powders or pre-package the powder yourself into single serve baggies.

I'm leaving in 3 weeks to fly home to St. Louis from London. It's a 7.5 hour flight to Philly, a layover and then an almost 2 hour flight to StL. It'll be almost 24 hours of traveling. She normally eats 4, 8oz bottles in a 24 hour period.

How do you travel? Do you takes bottles, bottled water and powder or do you just buy the ready-made stuff and take bottles? I'm trying to figure out what the easiest thing to do it.

She eats GoodStart Gentle, so I can the the 8oz ready-made cartons. Do you just pour them into bottles? How many did you take? Did you just take extra nipples and rinse the bottles? What's the easiest way to do this?
