I have a 6cm fibroid that was discovered during my 8 week ultrasound. So far, I haven't had any complications other than my belly looking larger and lumpier than normal. That area has been a little sore at times, but no real pain. At my last ultrasound, they told me it's sitting on a stalk at the top of my uterus. All along, they've said that because of where it is, the baby should be fine. Now that I'm in the 3rd trimester, they are doing monthly ultrasounds to keep an eye on it. It's getting close to my gallbladder at this point, so they said there is some potential for complications if it starts to push on the gallbladder. At this point, it's still just wait and see if anything happens.

@meesker: The MFM doc thought that my fibroid might be starting to get the blood flow cut off two weeks ago. I'll know more on Friday when I have another ultrasound. It is pretty painful at times.

I had a 16cm fibroid on/blocking my cervix. I also had smaller, though not small fibroids near the top of my uterus. I had fibroids pre-pregnancy, but the one just grew like crazy from the hormones. It has shrunk some in the last year, but is still noticeably present.

Because of my rapidly growing fibroid, I had stretch marks at 7 weeks, and was showing and in maternity clothes by 11 weeks. The growing fibroids were present at my 12 week ultrasound and I had monthly ultrasounds after the 20 week anatomy scan to monitor the progress.

My daughter was folded in half and breech the whole time and I was a mandatory c-section. The c-section was at 39 weeks because the fibroid put me at risk of pre-term labor and they really really did not want me to go into labor (since she couldn't possibly come out vaginally).
I did not have too much pain associated with the fibroid, although it was like I was carrying twins. I did have bad pelvic or sciatica pain midway through, but it improved as baby grew and shifted. I also had a period around 18 weeks where I couldn't pee if my bladder was full because the fibroid was punching off my urethra. That was pretty uncomfortable.

There is something they warned me about called red death or something like that. It is where the fibroid outgrows the blood supply and starts dying a muscle death. It is not uncommon for pregnancy related fibroids, and, as I understand it, is incredibly painful. I thank my lucky stars it didn't happen to me.

@kayakgirl73: yes, but I think hers was unusual, and her doctor was not monitoring well.

My coworker had a large one that eventually caused pre-term labor and the loss of her baby. It was incredibly sad, but I don't know all the details of what about the fibroid caused the issue. She's been successfully pregnant twice since with lots of monitoring and a cerclage to help prevent preterm labor. Hers tend to grow quite large during her pregnancies.

I have a fibroid that has grown to 10 centimeters and it's causing pain. Nothing they can do now. It's not in a spot to be dangerous for the baby or preclude a vaginal delivery but baby is breech and it might keep her from turning. I'm 31 weeks 4 days.

Perfect timing. A co-worker of mine opened up to me about her dr telling her she had fibroids very recently. She knew I went through fertility treatments so she was asking about the process.

I wasn't able to say much about her condition but I'm glad there's treatments out there that will help her get pregnant when she does want to start a family.

@snowjewelz: This probably doesnt help your friend since she just discovered hers, but my RE found one during a pre-conception scan and wanted it removed before I got pregnant. So I had that surgery (minor) two months before TTC. That said, I have a friend at work who, like your friend, didnt know she had one until she got pregnant. She is now 25 weeks and absolutely fine! No complications whatsoever.

I had a fibroid the size of a softball, I actually had 2 but one was bigger. It gave me wicked pain especially when LO kicked it. It was high and out if the way of delivery. Other then some extra pain and bulging I had no complications. I did get extra ultrasounds and my periods were waaaay worse post partum then they were before. I hope that helps!

Asking for a friend. She has a fribroid that's 10cm and when she first found out about it (at her 1st check up, and realize that's the reasons she was already showing), doctor just said to monitor it. But she had to go to the ER w/ horrible back pain last night. Just want to see if anyone else had this experience and how it turned out!
