DS looked like that when he went in for his 9 month checkup. His family doc said it's common in teething kids (so did all my family), especially during the winter when it's so dry. It's a reaction to the drool, so she recommended to just use cream to protect against it. She said vasceline is fine, but we've been using lanolin. When I'm really anal about it, the rash goes away. He's had it for a couple of months and doesn't seem bothered. I did look up fifths disease awhile ago and everything seems to indicate a rash on the body, as well as the slap cheeks. I'm not a doctor but it doesn't sound like your kids have it.

DD gets this for much of the winter - looks chapped. We do aquaphor on it. Id be more concerned if it was spreading, but if it's only on cheeks I'd think it's nothing contagious.

I think if you're immune you should be fine to go to the shower.

My son had 5th disease this past summer. He had a speckled rash all over his body that took a good amount of time to go away (maybe 2-3 weeks). The rash comes after the virus, so they aren't contagious anymore, if they did indeed have it.

I think there is a risk with passing it to pregnant moms, so call your pediatrician before heading to the shower.

Ok first, does anyone know if this is what the rash looks like? She's had a runny nose for about 2 weeks but she just started daycare and is getting her molars. She's had this rash on her cheeks for about 3 days. My almost 3 year old has the same rash on his cheeks and has what I thought was eczema all over his bottom half. Neither have any fever.

Second, does anyone know if I could still pass this to pregnant moms if I am immune to it (I was tested when I was pregnant)? I'm throwing a baby shower for a friend tomorrow and wouldn't want to put her at risk. 😷
