I was the same at the beginning of this pregnancy and have caught a cold maybe twice during and I just take halls for my throat and my MW gave me a list of things I could take and Robitussin was one and Tylenol cold so I just use Tylenol and Gatorade and water that's bout it. But every doc is different so I would check with your doc first

Our midwives apologized, but said that they don't recommend taking anything for a cold. I boosted my OJ, took b12, drank lots of water, and rested. Remember, your symptoms will peak in 1 or 2 days, and you'll start feeling better!!

Like someone else had mentioned, above, my early pregnancy symptoms mimicked a cold as well.

Good luck, mama!

I would go to the doctor to make sure to get a green light on meds to take especially during your first trimester.

I've caught at least 5 colds during this pregnancy and was told I could take Nyquil (non alcohol) for relief by my doc.

There is stuff you can take while pregnant but you may want to see a doctor since you are first tri.

Had the same thing at fifteen weeks... It just straight out sucks, but you are right, they will tell you to tough it out as much as possible. Took me almost two weeks to feel fully on the mend.

I take things like sudafed for a cold--otherwise i tend to get sinus infections. But it was on my doc's approved list...they should let you know what's safe!

colds just have to run their course. Boooo. fefel better soon

Ugh, I'm there today too! I should call the doctor, but even if they approved something, I'm not up for going out and getting medication. DH could bring me something, but not until he gets home from work much later :P

I hope you feel better soon!

@Torchwood: if you call your doc I bet they have a list of approved medication! I figured being exhausted and stressed was more dangerous than one dose of cough meds per day

I don't usually do anything for a cold otherwise so I wouldn't really do anything different pregnant-- usually they just have to run their course! Although I did get a particularly bad one around 12 weeks that was keeping me up all night coughing and called my doc for advise and they said i could take robitussin. definitely helped the cough so I could sleep.

@Mrs. Confetti: Yeah, I actually assumed it was just the pregnancy initially. It's progressed into can't breathe level of stuffiness and coughing up a lung every two seconds, so I've decided I can call it a cold. Poor DH isn't getting much sleep with me being so noisy. Right now breathe right strips are the only thing keeping me functional. Thanks!

as long as you are sure it's a cold, why bother? they'll tell you exactly what you just said. That being said, hang in there....

Also, early pregnancy can mimic cold symptoms - snuffiness especially. not much you can do.

I have a nasty cold, and am 4w4d pregnant. My mom keeps telling me to go to the doctor, but I don't think there's anything they can do, right? Pretty sure all they'll do is tell me to stay rested and hydrated, drink oj, maybe do a neti pot. There's no medicine they can offer, as far as I know. I've been doing all of the above, plus hot tea, eucalyptus oil in the shower, and taking garlic (though I just realized I shouldn't be doing that, so gonna stop). Am I wrong to not go to the doctor?

ETA- Does anyone know what sort of store would carry an essential oil diffuser? I know I could get one online but I'd like one now.
