I am sure I'm forgetting so many movies. I feel like there's so many she'd have to see that are cultural classics. Of course all of these would be at the age appropriate time:

@Shizaz: it was totally my favorite movie around that age too for a looooong time. I am pretty conservative with video content for my kiddo(not others) so that's why I would wait. :)
@Mrs. Pen: huge impact on me as well. I saw it in my twenties. Good to hear it hit you in the teens too. loved the Blind Side. That reminds me Hotel Rwanda was pretty deep along those lines too! Not sure if a teen would appreciate it though.
Annie was a must see with my LO as well.
Upper elementary age:
The Help
Princess Kaiulani

I remember vividly the week before I left for college as a freshman, and my dad made an Animal House reference in the car. I totally didn't get it, and when he figured out that I had never seen the movie, he did a U-turn to get to Blockbuster. Animal House is totally on my list, now!

On a popular philadelphia radio morning show today they were talking about movie classics they've never seen but probably should have. The one host has lived in Philly all his life and never saw the original Rocky and they were giving him a hard time about it. It got me thinking of the responsibility of film education to my child/ren.

Just for fun what "classic" movies would you want your child to have watched by the time they turn 18, whether it be because of Film Significance, Personal Favorite, Social References, Actors/Acting, Historical/locational importance, or Geekiness reasons?

Some of my picks off the top of my head would be
Gone With the Wind
Charlie & Chocolate Factory (original)
Clueless
Now and Then
Godfather
Goonies
A League of their own
Breakfast at Tiffanys
My Cousin Vinny
Empire Records
Can't hardly Wait
Rocky
Little Rascals
