I got a call yesterday from one of the clinics I hadn't heard back from yet and they had room for me!!! Hooray!!! I'm going in on Monday to meet with them. I really do hope I get in somewhere. Part of me feels terrible hoping I get a space, because I'd hate to think some other woman was going through something traumatic that would have caused her to not need the service anymore :( I'm trying to keep in mind that my MIL is really connected with the medical community, so if we DO go with an OB, chances are we'll have literally one of the best in the city, if not the world which is not an opportunity to sneeze at! </p> <p>We were just starting to get informed on homebirths though, and it seems like it may be something that would fit us well, but I'll admit we have a lot more reading up to do! It would just feel awful if that was what we wanted in the end and couldn't have. I had similar issues getting a hold of a homebirth midwife. I started calling at 6w, literally two days after finding out I was pregnant, and my first choice already wasn't available. However, I'm SO GLAD I have the care that I do now! That totally sucks! I'm really lucky because at my practice, they have 9 physicians and 9 midwives, so you can choose if you prefer to have a midwife or a physician during your birth. Although I don't think they do home-births - I think I have to deliver at the hospital regardless of which I choose.</p> <p>Good luck finding a midwife! I have a few friends who are midwives, so I guess I made the wrong assumptions about the availability of midwives where I live. I've called 4 clinics to try to find a midwife, I'm on 2 waiting lists, and the other two haven't called me back. Beyond that, I'm too far out of the catchment areas for other clinics, so it's these 4 (only two of which are technically my area), or going my regular doctor route. </p> <p>DH and I started talking about the possibility of a homebirth, so not having a midwife takes that entirely off the table for us. I'm SO disappointed right now. I didn't realize that I needed to call for a midwife before I called my own doctor for goodness sakes!!!! Ugh I'm just so frustrated! </p> <p>Okay vent done, I just needed to have a pity party for a second. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the other two, but at this point, I'm really not optimistic about it :( </p>
