We got recommendations from my obgyn and another in the practice and interviewed both. We did let the "winner" know but she is super easy to contact (one reason we love her) so I think we emailed or texted her! Anyway, where I live the pedi attends your birth so we definitely had to tell her!

Our hospital has a thing where they get 5-7 pediatricians in one room for you so you can go around and talk to them all at once. They had pamphlets and brochures and you could ask questions. They also had one doctor speak about what to look for in a pediatrician.

From there we picked two favorites and asked my parents opinions because my dad is a doctor so he knows people, and they led us toward the one we went with. Also all of our friends with kids go to them and love them. We did set up an interview just to be sure we liked the office and it was clean, etc even though we already met him.

We asked if we had to tell him ahead of time that he was our doctor and he said no, just tell the hospital when I'm in labor so that's what I did.

Subscribing as I'm researching the same thing!
My OB also recommended a couple of ped groups that she liked. I'm going to start with those two and the ped of my BFF.

We asked friends with children who they saw, and then narrowed it down from there. We compiled a list of questions, interviewed ours once and decided we loved him. We discussed the post-delivery evaluation with him during the visit, but I think many people just put the doctor's name on the hospital form.

I'm a little overwhelmed by the thought of picking a pedi! I'm in a pretty big area with hundreds of pedis in our immediate area. We're getting a ton of recommendations and also warnings about some. I think we'll probably start by researching the highly recommended ones and then narrow down by hospital privileges and then maybe meet the final few. Honestly though we might just choose someone at that point. I figure we can always switch if it isn't the right fit.

I interviewed 3 pedi's and picked one that I thought I really liked. When LO was 5 days old, I got into an argument with them. They were not supportive of a choice that I had made (common choice) and basically told me that I was a bad Mom. I couldn't believe that they were tearing me apart, new, insecure, hormonal, etc. I realized then that I should have interviewed them better. I should have asked more specific questions, and not assumed they would support different choices. It was an interesting lesson.

I just picked an office based on how far it was from our house, how many doctors worked in the office, and how their after-hours care worked. When I called them to see what I needed to do, they said I would just pick a doctor from their list of who was accepting new patients and then let the hospital know when LO arrived. We met the doctor for the first time at his 2 day check-up.

I tried setting up interviews with several doctors, but only one office allowed "meet and greets". I immediately axed the offices that wouldn't let us meet any of the doctors and we chose our ped from the office that did. We don't have to let them know we chose them. We just call when we're being discharged to set up the first appointment. A staff pediatrician at the hospital will see the baby in the hospital since it's over an hour away from where we live.

We interviewed 2. We didn't tell them we had picked them, just called from the hospital to schedule our first appt. They only come to the hospital if they have privileges there. If not, another doc will see your baby in the hospital and you'll see your pedi within 48 hours of discharge.

We live in a fairly small town so it wasn't a huge decision for us as there are only about a half a dozen to choose from and so I asked my friends who they used/didn't use anymore and why. I didn't have an "interview", just put his name on the forms, but I was confident in our choice. Sorry I'm not more help!

I feel dumb...I just don't know how to do this.

- Did you set up multiple interviews, or just pick one and see if you liked them?

- Did you let them know you wanted them to be your child's pediatrician? Or when you were filling out forms at the hospital did you just put that doctor's name down? And I assume the hospital calls them to come evaluate the baby? How does that work?
