Love this site for most things but she used to be a librarian. Great recs! She writes for Brightly sometimes too. https://everyday-reading.com

What about non fiction? I enjoyed biographies as a kid (still do!).

Thanks everyone! I’ve maxed out my library holds for ebooks - seems like everyone has the same plan so lots of long waits. Need to explore what books I can get on her school ipad but great to have lots of ideas!

I’m trying to think of what I liked when I liked the Little Princess. The Little House books, The Secret Garden, the Boxcar Children. I have an 8 year old Goddaughter who is really really into Chris Colfer’s series The Land of Stories. Maybe Anne of Green Gables? Gordon Korman’s earlier stuff - the Bruno and Boots series, No Coins Please, I Want to Go Home - are fabulous. The Phantom Tollbooth? And yes, Roald Dahl for sure!

I found this list which includes Matilda, one of my all time favorites! When I was student teaching in a third grade classroom I read it aloud and the kids loved it.

now that we're all homeschooling . . . any tips on finding engaging and challenging books for elementary students?her school is only doing review and I'm looking for other ways to push her. I've filled a kindle with some library options she is enjoying, but I don't think they're doing much for her vocabulary etc. I asked her teacher and plan to ask the librarian as well, but figured lots of smart people here too

her most recent standardized test put her lexile at 910-1060 - I don't know how accurate that is, but she definitely reads at a high level. however, she's a relatively sheltered 8 year old so I want content to be age appropriate. I gave her A Little Princess over break and she really loved the first two Harry Potters (we stopped there for now).

any tips appreciated, either specific books or places to find recommendations!
