@lovehoneybee: that is a great idea! I would have never thought of that and will try tonight!

@NovBaby1112: he's 8 months. He's pretty much got it, but sometimes he just tries for handfuls if he's lazy. But he'd rather be a lazy self feeder than being fed purees.

@heartonastring: I guess I would like to feed him whatever we are eating, but we eat a lot of raw veggies and I'm worried he can't do those yet.

@cmomma17: thanks! I'll try some of those :)

Have you tried beans? We do black beans and chickpeas (garbanzo) but any beans would work. Good pincer practice. Serve plain or dress them up however you want (we like cumin and olive oil, or salsa).
Hunks of sweet potato?
Try cutting a piece of toast into smaller squares (put butter, jelly, hummus, whatever you want on it).
Keep trying the slippery fruits, he'll figure it out eventually.
What about pasta? Lot's of small shapes to choose from, and you can do plain, with sauce, with butter and cheese, etc. I cut rotini in halves or thirds.

She eats whatever we eat.

Other things I sometimes add on her tray: organic berries, kiwi, avocado, banana, roasted sweet potato, roasted or steamed broccoli, guacamole, hummus, roasted zucchini. Basically anything and everything.

I give DS whatever I'm eating so mainly meats and veggies. He gets his fruit via purees or me feeding him. He's a lazy eater, but if you feed him, he's all over it. ha!

@.twist.: how old is he again? I feel like M didn't really get the pincer grasp down until maybe 8ish months? puffs and cheerios helped alot! fruits are difficult though because they are so slippery...what about little orange slices? or cut up grapes? or some sliced watermelon that he can hold onto?

@.twist.: As for the fruits, we never did it, but I read that rolling them in crushed up cheerios (the dust) will provide enough texture to them to be able to grasp. Also, I've found that with at least bananas, if you cut it but placing your thumb on the end and pressing down it will "break" the banana into 3 long pieces that I then just tore into pieces. It's not quite as slimy as cutting slices?

I need some finger food ideas! My little dude likes to feed himself, but I feel like we don't do much variety and I'm kinda stumped. Tell me what your finger food meals/menus are like!
