@Foodnerd81: good to know!!! Yes I just put the steamed sweet potatoes, steamed zucchini, banana, water, and some blueberries in the blender all in one go. When it is ready I just pour it into the pancake mixture with eggs and milk and all. Can not thank hellobee enough for that recipe now I am like a machine making those pancakes while LO eats them like a machine lol

@irene: made the sweet potato pancakes today! I shredded the zucchini bc it's too much trouble to get out the food processor, and I think it would have been better if it was actually puréed, but they were still very good and C ate a bunch. They will be great to take out since it's much less messy than many veggies!

@daniellemybelle: I wouldn't worry about being messy, kiddos touching/squishing their food is one of the ways they explore/learn about new food. I think it's super important for them to learn about different textures. It would be a shame to not give her avocado or banana, since usually babies love them and avocado is such a good source of fat!

My LO loves the spinach gnocchi from weelicious, and the chickpea patties from the BLW cookbook.

What about getting some reusable pouches you fill with your own food? I'm in New Zealand and got kai carriers, im sure there will be some where you live as well. When LO was younger I filled them with pureed food or snacks like yoghurt, now he is over 1 I don't use them as much as he can eat pretty much any finger food but they are still good for snacks out on the run.

@daniellemybelle: I don't know how anti-canned foods you are, but I kept cans of black olives and beets around for when I ran out of ideas. Only a couple olives at a time (cut up) because they're pretty salty. For canned beets I would rinse them off first because otherwise the juice they sit in gets *everywhere*.

@MamaPhoenix: You are not stupid! The current guidance on this stuff says that avoiding it before a certain age doesn't help so you didn't do anything wrong!

Wow - pickles! That's a great idea. I personally hate them but I bet LO would be a fan. :)

@MrsMed: Dairy products like yogurt & cheese are okay, just not milk. Actually, I've heard the main reason they say not to give milk before 1 is because they don't want you replacing breastmilk/formula when they still need those nutrients. So it's not as if your LO had milk, they would be more likely react just because they aren't 12 months yet.

@ShootingStar: I would love that to be true, but I'm the opposite! never had a problem when I was a kido. About two years ago I started reacting. I went to an allergist and sure enough I was allergic. I also somehow became allergic to my bunnies at the same time after many years with them.

@Weagle: Thank you the great advice!
@daniellemybelle: @LiveLove: Oh those poor babe's! I'm so nervous about eggs!!!! I screwed up once with srtawberries and now I'm paranoid. We bought a flat from the local festival and I pureed, cooked and jarred them. DD ended up with a huge rash, hives and itchy/very cranky. I didn't know that they we're even a potential allergen! She was eating the Heinz jars stuff before with no problem. I took her to the Doc and he said the processing in the plants is a much higher temp and kills that protein that causes the reaction. Stupid first time mom mistake. I felt so guilty that she went through that because of me. Would she have a higher chance of reacting to eggs because of my sensitivity?

Yeah Ladies, this is really helpful. We have been pretty boring around our house with food choices for our 8 month-old daughter. Can I give her whole yogurt? Or am I supposed to wait until 1 year for cow's milk?

@MrsA: she just mashed the cheese cubes with her gums. I would do soft cheeses, like mild cheddar, mozzarella, and cut it small enough that she could essentially swallow it whole and not choke. You can also try shredded cheese, C liked to grab handfuls of that, but it was messier. We started with that before the cubes.

Newbie question...how does a baby with no teeth eat cheese cubes? I'm scared if I give her one she'd pop the whole thing in and choke. How does it work?

@daniellemybelle: So glad the flax seed egg substitute worked well for you!!

@MamaPhoenix: We found out the second time my son had scrambled egg yolks when he broke out in hives all over, runny nose, and he was itchy. The pediatrician had us take him to the allergist (we used one that specializes in kids) to confirm the allergy. It depends on the severity of the allergy, but I am really glad we went b/c they recommended we carry an epi-pen due to the type of reaction we was having. I would much rather be safe than sorry.

LOVE all these ideas! Keep them coming!

This morning we made pancakes with a flaxseed egg (thanks @LiveLove: !) She went to town! This is the recipe I used.
http://foodsnobstl.com/2012/12/snobby-mommy-baby-cereal-pancakes/

@MamaPhoenix: We did the whole egg. Our pediatrician said to not wait to try egg whites. Her face got a little red the first time & then the second time she got hives all over :( So we are going to wait a few months to try anything with eggs again.

@Weagle: I am ordering reusable pouches today! I can never find them in a store. She's tried a million different purees combos so variety is not an issue!

@ladybee: Glad I'm not alone :)

@MamaPhoenix: Oh, and our pediatrician advised against us seeing an allergist about this. It's very common for an egg intolerance to be outgrown, so she advised to wait until the average age before making any appointments.

@MamaPhoenix: I found out with copious amounts of vomit, no matter what part I gave her. I would try giving her just the yolk first and watching for a reaction. Then after you know she's not having a reaction to the yolk after giving it several times, you could try the white. I would hard boil to separate them more easily.
